Cody, there is an archery shop in Belgrade near Bozeman, but I think it's mostly compound. Looks like you'll be just north of the park on hwy 89. I'm a ways from you we usually go into West Yellowstone when we go to the park. Sorry I am not more help. When you get up here PM me & we'll talk. Frank

Big Sky Archery in Belgrade.  Sportsman's Warehouse in Bozeman.  Yellowstone Gateway Sports in 4 Corners(Between Bzm and Belgrade)  Bob Wards Sporting goods in Bozeman. Cabelas is going to open in Billings in month or so.  Like Frank says, all mostly cater to compounders.  Your going to be in the elk capital of the world my friend.  Last time I was in Gardner I was admiring the elk herd in the parking lot of the Best Western motel.  I drive down to Mamoth every Oct to eat ice cream and watch the elk bugle and spar.  Doesn't get any better than that.

Traditional Bowhunters of Montana should be having a shoot. Not sure if it's at Moose Creek or not this year. I'll try to find out for ya.

Cody, as stated above, TBM will have a shoot in July.Should be Moose Creek again.. if so.. and if you have a car, just drive through the park to W. Yeller..then down the Gallatin till you get to Moose Creek! It would be fun to meet ya...

You'll have a car? What are you going to do? There are some great trad archers in and around the Paradise Valley...but no shops!

June 26-28 is the TBM shoot at Moose Creek which is 6 miles north of Big Sky on the right hand side of the road if you are coming up from West Yellowstone.  It is a lot of fun.  Doug Campbell doesn't live to far out of Livingston on the West Fork of the Boulder river and as Barney has already said, 170 miles isn't a long drive for this neck of the woods.   Joseph

We westerners have been known to drive 100  miles fer coffee. 150 if you include lunch.
  ;)
P.S. When you live in the 4th largest state and you put your location as Montana, that's like saying "over yonder". You might narrow that down to something like the nearest town. That way I can figure out where ya are.

I'm in Belgrade about a mile from Big Sky Archery.  They have a few recurves on the shelves.  Definitely a compound establishment although the owners and atleast one employee all own trad bows and shoot them now and then when the urge hits.  Hope to see you at Moose Cr. the end of June. Enjoy Gardiner...pm me if you have any other questions.
Randy.

There used to be a great outdoor shooting course at Lone Pine State Park in Kalispell. I used to shoot there alot when I lived in the Flathead. It has been 20 years now, so I'm not sure if it is still around. It's no day trip (Kalispell is a good 6 hours from Gardiner), but it may be something to think about for a weekend or such. You'll love MT, once you've spent some time there it will stay in your soul.....Trust me.

Hey Cody...I'm probably closest to you, just up the road about 50 miles from Yellowstone.   Doug lives another 20-some miles further.  Feel free to stop in anytime.   The closest archery shops have been mentioned....Yellowstone Gateway sports is in Livingston, and can get some basic stuff for you if needed.  No close ranges for you to shoot at, but plenty of wide open spaces and mountains to climb and stump in!  There will be a Moose Creek shoot, in June...I think it's the third weekend.   Moose Creek is south of Bozeman, and not too far to drive, if you want to meet some of us "locals".   Anyway, you'll have some fun working in the park, I'm sure.  Get ahold of me if you want....we can shoot here at the house, and even make a bow or two if you have the desire.

What type of work are you doing in the park?  I lived in Bozeman for the last dozen years or so and all the shops have been mentioned.  I moved back to Michigan and have regreted it everyday...you won't want to come back, stay as long as you can!

A little off topic, but make time to go through the Lamar Valley to Cook City and then over to Cody Wyo. to Buffalo Bill Cody Museum which is one of the premier museums in the USA.They have an incredible firearms collection and also an excellent Native American history section - they rec. two days at the museum and you'll need it. The drive to Cody is also awesome scenery.

I was in Bozeman today, & thought I'd stop at Big Sky Archery on the way home. They had a few factory recurves, A Bear Kodiak Mag for $550  Wow, a Grizzly for $425, Maybe the one that was actually worth the asking price was a Wing Hunter for $130. I thought the prices were a little high. Frank

I worked in the park for two seasons, 95 and 03. The person over the entire lower loop for Xanterra is a good friend from college. He's the one who first brought me out there in 95.

It is a wonderful place. Lived in Livingston for nine months in 06, too. When you arrive in Gardiner be sure and get a burger from Helen's. Wash it down with a Fat Tire from the Two Bit. And take Mark something special to hang on his fence. You'll understand all of this when you get there. God, I miss it.
