I was just getting a idea of how many of us were going trad only for turkeys here in the northeast. ME,NH,Mass,Conn,VT,NY,NJ. ect. I know we don't have the numbers of birds they do in the midwest and south but I hunted trad last year and loved it best turkey season ever. I am pupmed for this year been scouting and listenng from a disance, bringing my 9yr old son out this weekend for the youth hunt. If he gets one this year it will be my best ever.Chris

I guess we dont count as Northeast here in PA because we have so many turkeys :)

I've never gun hunted turkeys and sold the wheels yrs ago so I guess I'm a trad only turkey hunter
LOL maybe I'll actually get one some day hopefully this yr

You don't need numbers of turkeys, just one.

I haven't touched a gun for turkeys since 2000...a whole bunch of birds later I'm looking forward to this opening day like it was my first!

This is my first year of trad only for turkeys. Decided to put the gun down and haven't touched the wheels in four years now. I haven't killed one yet, but when I do I'll be proud. :bigsmyl:

I have been hunting turkey with traditional equipment for twenty years, haven't got my first bird yet. I don't use a blind or a decoy so it is a little more difficult. Have shot at six or seven birds and hit one nice gobbler but he still got away. I have called in probally close to 100 gobblers over the years. I call birds in for others and we usually kill one or two a year.

I'll be headin out next week with my recurve and no blind this year.

Trad is the only way I roll. Trad for life in WV.

Well..... I can't say that I' totaly with you guys.....
I'm kind of a "whatever spirit moves me" kinda guy,but on the other hand,I'm a "differant" kinda egg.....
Any day could find me taking anything from my dear departed friend's 16ga. Ithica Deerslayer,to my old single shot .410,or maybe even one of my old Bear recurves.....
That being said, I'll probly be carrying my longbow and a backquiver full of woodies!!!!!
-
sorry, its a "boom stick" for me.... At 6'-7" and a 32" draw, I'm not going to pull off that much movement, and I just cant imagine sitting in a blind that long. For me its run and gun....
I'm impressed with you guys that do it!

Going to try PA and NJ This year if I get the time. Been seeing tons of birds.

This will be my second year totally trad, last years birds were very thin coming into spring, yotes and winter took a huge toll, so i only saw three birds where i hunt in three weeks of hunting them!! this years birds look good with good numbers, my wife and i started scouting them in mid march and followed them from their late winter range to the spring range which is right where i hunt, things look good i just have to make the shot!! natural blinds only for me!! oh i don't call or use decoys the first week, just set up on them like i'm hunting deer!!!

Monday the 27th is opening day in MA. I can't wait!

You may not have many turkeys in Vermont but we have as many if not more than states out west here in NY. I have seen over 120 different birds in the last 2 days and that is just riding around in a truck at work covering 6-8 miles. Shawn

oops! I meant to say the bow or nothin'. I'll probably use my Ben Pearson Equalizer (48") from my blind when blind hunting. The pic is from my game camera.
