I know we all hope to run into a blind deer or turkey but my buddy told me a story I had to repeat. He was hunting and busted some birds off the roost first thing in the morning. Later he was walking a trail out when he saw a hen. He froze and she walked right up to him. Now we are talking to within two feet. She stayed close to him, close enough he reached out and touched her tail feathers. When he started out she would follow him by the sound of the leaves. Now that is a crazy story. He finally got to the field and lost her. :confused:

Called a Gobler in this morning and he was with a hen that wasn't blind. They circled me and when I moved to get in position she busted me. Oh well, there is tomorrow morning.

I never ran across a blind turkey, but sure did have a hard time trying to kill a mute gobbler about ten years ago. If he had not frequented a pasture, I may have not known he ever existed.
I got on him several times, and he would answer my calls, but did not make a sound. How did I know he was answering, I could see him stretch out his old neck, and even see his beak open. It was just like watching a hunting viedo with the tv on mute. The old boy was a good'un too, had a set of spurs you could see with the naked eye at 40 yards.
The only time I was every in range of him, I had belly crawled along a brushy fence row to within 10 yards, with him on the other side. I was finally able to get to my knees, and there he was, but it was too thick to shoot through. All I could do was watch his back side vibrate when he would drum, soooo close, but no cigar.
I never killed that bird, but I have very fond memories of our 8 encounters. Good Times

Blind or Tame "Wild" turkey? Someone might have raised it around the area and turned it loose...that happened around here a couple of years ago. A famers kid raised a baby turkey he found all alone (as the story goes) and eventually let it go...no natural fear of humans. Thats my theory anyway...
I think a blind wild turkey would surely parish at the doings of natural predators rather quickly.

Thats a good point, we had a hen turkey raise her brood right in town. She would be in the flower bed right by the deck. She would drive my bird dog crazy. She raised nine out of twelve birds, maybe she wasn't so crazy after all. My dog got loose one day and flushed the little ones and they flew up and landed on the telephone line. You should of seen three turkeys trying to balance on that line with my pointer on point right underneath them.
