Just wondering, for those of you who shoot longbows, do you prefer tab or glove? Why? Seem to see more longbow shooters shooting with gloves, just wondering if there is a reason for it....
-
it's totally and completely about personal preference. neither is better or worse than the other. words can never describe why one is better than the other for YOU ... try both, then decide.
-
I am a long time glove shooter, but have recently started shooting my backup, 3 under cordovan tab more, found I get better groups overall, w/recurve and longbow.
-
Shooting split fingers, I find little difference between glove and tab. Both work fine.
Shooting 3 under, I prefer a tab. I think I get more consistent finger placement on the string with a tab. I just move it up until it contacts my bottom nock point and I'm in the same spot every shot. With a glove, I can vary an eighth of an inch or so pretty easily. This isn't much of a factor when shooting split.
-
Wouldn't shoot a glove if someone sent me a new one every day! Better "feel"/release in my opinion but I am sure the glove shooter will say the same thing! :D
-
Always shot a glove. Never saw a reason to switch. Maybe if I shot a tab, I would change my mind, but I'm old, and hesitatingly learn new tricks.
-
Glove only. Have tried tab maybe 3 times but always get it twisted or my fingers on the string somehow. Bad for my confidence. I believe Capt. Jack herein shoots a tab. Don't shoot him for money. Point is, whichever you prefer and get used to.

Personal preference,I started out with a glove but switched to a cordovan tab many years ago.I like a Bateman cordovan tab with the single finger hole.I can control nocking the arrow better and quicker with my bare fingers.I feel I get a cleaner release.Cheaper then most gloves by alittle and alot on some.Plus they last a long time, been shooting the same tab for the last four years.
-
Spent about an hour today and made 4 tabs so I have plenty of back upps. I shoot 3 under and feel I get a better release and I like the feel of my fingertip as an anchor insted of a glove tip. I also like the fact that if I have thin gloves on I can still use the tab.

I prefer a Damascus Glove and I shoot three under.
-
I like Three River's Dura Glove.
-
I like the Dura Glove as well.RC

Calf Hair Tab

geez, stop already, will ya?!
not one of you guyz are real men, 'cause real manly men don't use, don't want, don't need nothing but strong, bare, manly fingers to pull back a hunting bowstring.
there, that's the final word on 'finger protection'.
yeesh.
 :D

Hey Rob, lets see some pictures of those manly fingers after a two hour practice session at the target butt.

now, this here post is not tongue-in-cheek ... the only time i'd ever dare to use bare fingers to haul back 29" of 55# limbs is if i had no other choice to make a shot on game. :) ymmv!

Roger Rothar, I am sure I spelled that wrong, shoot his bow with bare fingers unless it's too cold. Tried it a couple of times but I guess I am not manly enough.

I've been shooting a BW tab for several years. I like the tab but I frequently hit my lip with the edge of the flap on the tab. I may have to go back to some type of glove. I would like to try one with the nylon/Cordura type fingers.
-
Tab. For me I get a cleaner release and easier to feel my anchor with it.
-
Damascas glove or how ever you spell it
-
I haven't been shooting nearly as long as some here, but I prefer shooting split finger with a glove. I tried a tab a few times and couldn't shoot very well. If I ever switch to 3 under I'll probably give it another try. If I stuck it out with a tab I might find that I would have a cleaner release, but for the most part I think it wouldn't have a very large effect on my accuracy compared to the other aspects of shooting. JMHO.
I occasionally shoot a couple of shots without the glove just for kicks. Most of my bows are somewhere around 60# at my draw length and I'll be the first to say that, even though the first couple of shots don't bother me, I'm not manly enough to do that for target practice. In the cold? Forget about it.

i shoot a calf hair tab. i get a better release. i shoot split finger

"Bear Heart" Yep Roger Rothar, uses his bare fingers, but he does triple serve the string around the nock.
I use both a Damascus glove and a Black Widow tab.
After the worse shooting experience of my life at Cloverdale, I took a hard look at what I was doing and have settled into the tab and 3 under anchor.

I have tried most of what's out there. I use to prefer calfhair tabs but it seemed like I needed to replace in ever two weeks. Damascus gloves worked well also. For the last few years I have only used a cordovan tab. I liked them so well that we started making them. I have also gone to using 3 fingers under. Now if I can just find the right bow.

I shoot 3 under with a glove. My GF likes my fingers soft and calous free.
