I just bought an '09 Thunderstick MOAB from a fellow member off the classifieds. I've been wanting to try one for a long time, but they just don't come up that often for sale used... guess that may say something about them right there.
This one is 58", and 56# @ 28" so probably 59# or so at my 29" draw... Osage riser, osage veneer on belly, Tamo Ash veneer on back and boo limb cores.

I'm thinking it really needs some copperheads and a black beavertail grip, but I guess that will have to wait...
Let me know your experiences with Jim's bows but especially the MOAB. I've read a lot of good, and very little bad, basically that is why I've wanted to try one for so long...
Thanks all, Jeff.
-
Congrats Jeff,
I have three of Jim's bows, 2 Moabs 62#, 70#, and a 55# Rams Horn. All fantastic bows. Hard hitting, quick and quiet. Good luck. RP
-
:coffee: Patiently waiting.
-
The MOAB is a great bow, and you are right, you don't see many of them for sale for a reason.
I own 2 of them, my son has a T-stick Mag, and my wife shoots a T-stick III. I like the look of the Osage, thats a sharp lookin bow. Good luck and good shooting with it.
-
Autumnarcher is right i own two also. That is one sweet looking bow.
-
My first Thunderstick was a Thunderstick 3, then 2 Mags after that, then 2 Moabs after that. Yea, I like Jim's bows. Shoot alot of the others.....always go back to Jim's
-
You want to cover up the Tamo ash veneers with snakeskins? Get professional help, friend: you aren't right in the head. :readit: ;)
And by the way, a MOAB is my go-to bow, complete with Tamo ash veneers.
-
I leave mine hanging most of the time... too deadly, spend all my time dragging critters and not enough time hunting. When you're hungry, pick up the MOAB.
-
Don't have time at the moment to say anytyhing but.....
You gonna cover up that Tamo Ash with copperheads? :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
PLEASE
-
i saw that bow i the classifieds and had to get off the computer immediately. thanks for buying it because i was getting weaker by the second...... great bow.
and i agree w/ others here, no skins over the tamo ash man!!
-
Do you have any problems with the critters seeing such a bright limb?

Never. I've used a bow that bright before and no problems. I've been wanting to try one myself so I went and ordered one. It should be here in a month or two. Thats some cool looking osage.

I like snake skins but, that bow doesn't need 'em...She's a beauty!!!

How does the 58" bow feel with Your 29" draw? Is it Maxed out at that draw or could You fudge another 1/2" out of it?
-
...I didn't know they did the MOAB in a 58"
-
I haven't gotten the bow yet, it is in the mail... but I'll let you know what the draw feels like at 29 and I actually have a bit more...
I had to ask too FM, but it is actually 58"...
-
I don't think you really realize what a big mistake you made. Once you start shooting a MOAB, you will find yourself comparing other bows, and being disappointed in their comparison. That MOAB will feel so dead in your hand, and fling arrows with such authority that you will soon realize why it is named as such.
-
I'm fine with that John! I've wanted to try one for some time, and I have a feeling all this is going to do is make me order another around 70# @ 29"... But, that isn't a bad thing either!
-
Crap! :banghead: Just when I thought I was done looking for a while, you have to post a beauty like that! I'm the biggest sucker when it comes to Osage. Now I got to go to Jim's site and have me a looksee.
-
I had a 60" I sold. I wish I had it back now. I would get a 62" for my next one. I just had a 66" TS III and liked it a lot, but the grip was different than the MOAB. I just traded it for a 62" TS III with the same grip as a standard MOAB. I like it a lot, but it is not as fast as the MOAB I had. I think Jim lists 60" and 62" for the MOAB, but I saw a 64" one not too long ago so it looks like he will do different ones. I pulled my 60” to 29” without problem and I got it from someone with a 30” draw.
-
any LH Moab someone wants to part with , these thread is killing me !!!!!
-
Good try Geraldo Im now thinking about an osage bow. My wife is going to get mad.Geraldo your mail box is full.
-
Don't have any pictures handy, but my 62" MOAB is still the fastest, quietest, smoothest shooting bow in my stable, recurves included!
BTW gray dymandwood riser (looks black), boo actionwoood limbs and black glass. Classic, thin, deadly....
-
Still no bow yet, but maybe tomorrow...
-
:campfire:
-
RRRR.... took the boat out and went fishing today and planned on getting back before the mail usually arrives. Low and behold there was the infamous "card" in the box to pick up tomorrow...
-
YOU WANT TO WHAT??????mUST BE THE SWINE FLU!!!! :saywhat: :saywhat: :saywhat: :knothead:
-
Ok, It's today already.
-
 Im waiting lets see that bow!
-
Ummm, yeah, I'm not going to be putting any skins on this bow! It is darker than it looked in the pictures and beautiful. Don't think I've ever seen Tamo Ash before, really kinda neet looking. Love the grip, but I need to put some silencers on the string and do some fine tuning before I make any final assumptions.
-
52#@27". 62" MOAB.
I call this bow "The Mistress". Here is her first kill.

-
Jeff, your killing us already!!! Whats the verdict? :readit:
-
Jeff....you've seen Tamo Ash before.....
My MOAB named 'Tines'....
Mine was a little 'bright' to start with...but it will 'settle down' real pretty.
-
Terry , thats neat , looks just like deer antlers color!!!!awesome...Marco
-
64", roughly 57# @ 32"

-
Here is another one (http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj10/longbowben/001.jpg)
-
Then there's my 60# MOAB Red Cedar veneer I named 'Sizzle'.
It got the name from its very 1st hunt, where I killed 3 hogs with it. I gave it that name because it really brought home the bacon from its maiden voyage....

Nice pigs.(Sizzle)good name for that bow. :clapper:
-
Terry, send me a close up on those Red Cedar veneers. My MOAB should be here in a month or so and that is what I ordered. Not sure what handle, I told Jim to pick the woods out for me. Thanks.
Mike
-
OK Terry, I'll have to say I've been in the presence of Tamo Ash veneers before... but, I don't think I noticed it though... may have been distracted by something, a 10 point something! ;)
I'm really liking this bow! I split one Hush Puppy and put each half at the 1/4 mark on the string and whalla... silent bow. Stuck one of my EFA quivers on it and it is ready to roll. Drops my Goldtips where I'm looking time and time again. It's very smooth on the draw, dead in the hand at the shot, and quieted down easily, and I'd say it is a performer.
Keeper for sure, and I think I'll have to give Jim a shout and order another around 70# @ 29". Now I'll just have to pick which woods...
-
Yep, sounds like a MOAB. :readit: :wavey:
-
This is my favorite. (http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj10/longbowben/266.jpg)
-
Oh and Terry, I thought Tines was your 60# and Sizzle was your 70#? I remember you brought Tines along the day after shooting that buck to track him with, but it wasn't the bow you used to shoot him with the night before... Or is there another MOAB you used to shoot him with?
-
Beautiful bows guys!
Ben, can you give some details on your bows? I.E. the woods in them, stunning!
-
Here is a side picture. (http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj10/longbowben/268.jpg)
-
And the funny thing i forgot what woods are in it. :knothead:
-
Still stunning Ben!
-
Jeff....'Sizzle' is the 60#er.....'Tines' is the 64#er and yes, I took it that morning on the recovery but shot that buck with the 70#er named 'With Authority'.....also a red cedar veneered MOAB.
I only showed that pic because it showed the Tamo Ash better.
'With Authority' was the 1st words out of my mouth when I took my 1st shot out of that 70#er with a 680 grain arrow and it knocked over my 3-D Buck Target....
Here's a few pics of her....She also took a hog on her very 1st outing.....There was a white spot on that boar and I kept telling myself not to pick that as a spot if he was broadside.....but to pick it if it was quartering away, and he quartered at 25 yards....BULLS EYE!

Dang :banghead: Dang :banghead: Dang :banghead: I was hoping you would be sending me a PM. Glad you like it. I'll just have to wait on my own.
Thanks terry, those look sweeeeeet!!!! My mouth is watering now.
-
keep it coming these are great!!!!
-
Day off today, went and got to know my MOAB a bit better. Switched to a Selway as the heads I had to use are 125 grains and the only 125 grainers I have are Snuffers, Razorcaps, and Snuffer SS... gives me a bit more room in the hood for them.
Loving this bow! Everything I said earlier is still true today. She is bucking for #1 slot with stiff competions of my Shawnees. Oh, and you wouldn't know this was a 58" bow to draw it! Smooth as silk and no finger pinch at all.
-
That is a mighty fine bow right there.
-
Jeff,
I think that bow might be a little light for ya. Maybe even a little short. You should really consider getting rid of it before you break it. I know this guy.......................... :biglaugh:

I think it's just about right Mike... ;)
-
So what do you think? She looks nice.Congrats on the find.
-
Ben, I've already got another MOAB ordered. Does that answer your question? ;)
Osage riser, bocote flare, 4 layer overlay (osage and bocote), Moose tips, with osage veneer on the belly and whatever veneer that is on the back of your bow with the horizontal grain... 60", 70# @ 29", and a dark brown leather grip.
-
Jeff, that looks sweet hanging there. And the yellow fletching tops it off perfectly.
-
love his thunderstick 3 but honestly with me I ordered the MOAB before it was even listed after talking with Jim @ Denton Hill and he said it was a new bow coming out and got it and it was a beautiful bow but I sold it before I even shot an arrow from it because I thought the grip was too skinny "for my tastes" it was digging into my hand.
the guy here who bought it loved it and I met him at Denton Hill a few years back after he had it for a few months and he still had it and still loved it,,,, I'd love to get another thunderstick 3 though..
