This is for all you archers with long draw lengths.
Please tell about your bow, the poundage, draw length and what arrow works for your long draw.
I've got a 64" Black Widow MA-II, 49#@29". My draw length on this bow is about 31.5". I have done alot of tuning with this bow and what works the best from the arrows I hace tried really surprised me.
I'm shooting a Gold Tip Traditional 55/75 full length with three 5" feathers and no wrap and using a 100 grain point with the standard insert. These arrows are shooting great with both field points and broadheads of 100 grains.
I was wanting to shoot 175 grain heads but I'll have to try a stiffer arrow to do so.
Another thing about long draw lengths is that it limits your choices of arrows. I know that the Gold Tip 35-55 is only about 30.5" full length.
What bows and arrows are you long draw archers using?

53# Das/border hexv limbs, 30" draw(back of riser). I can tune full length gold tip entrada 300's (31") 250 (200 point 50 brass insert. up front or 340 axis 30.5" 300 (200 pt 100 brass insert) up front. Of course I need to adjust center shot due to the different diameters.
I think you will need the next higher spine, 75/95 to increase point weight. Long draw is both a blessing and curse, longer power stroke but hard to get stiff enough arrows with high point weight.

Morrison ILF recurve 63# @ 30" I shoot a 31" Axis 340 ("N-Fusion") shaft with a 300XTREEM (300 grain) broadhead up front. Three 5" feathers. Great arrow flight.

katman, That's what I figured on the 75/95 to shoot the point weight I want to shoot. It's funny, but I kinda thought the 55/75's would be too stiff when I first bought them.
You are exactly right about the blessing and the curse. I never thought about it that way but you're right.

I don't have a long draw length but have used 55/75's and 75/95's off the same bow.I think you will have to increase point weight a lot more than 175.There is a lot of difference in those 2 shafts.I had to cut the 75/95's 2 inches longer than the 55/75's and add a lot more front end weight.I wouldn't want to predict that your results would match mine but I would be prepared to be flexible about point weight and your overall arrow weight will go up considerably too.You may want to consider 100 gr brass inserts also.Another option might be to build out your sideplate.This will make will increase your dynamic spine.I have no idea how much it would take to compensate for 50 extra grains of point weight but it would be a simple experiment and might allow you to use your current arrows and not have to go a lot heavier in total arrow weight.

I'm shooting a brad moore t/d recurve #60@30". I'm drawing it to 31 or so (62 lbs) all my arrows have 125g tips right now, started with massive 32" laminated lodgepole pine arrows that shoot ok and have amazing penetration. I never tried carbons, so I picked up some full length (32.5)5575 gt expeds. They feel really light, and fly like darts (group decent too). I blew one up the first time I hit a rock, and i'm a little leary of cf splinters. I prefer a heavier, more durable arrow. I'll have xx75 2317's in a day or two, i'm guessing i'll cut them somewhere between 32.5-32 once i see how they fly.

You say you need a stiffer arrow to shoot 175s - have you tried those weight tips yet?
I only ask b/c I have a very similiar setup (mohawk td 55#@29.5, I draw 29.5) I shoot 55/75 GT Expeditions with 125 - 200 gr tips and cannot tell much difference in flight (full length).
I cut a few down to 32", and have been playing around with 300gr field tips and they do reasonably well.
My caveat is that I am only shooting 23yds (which is the limit for my range in the front yard.....)
The other arrow that some friends have had great success with is the Arrow Dynamics Hammerhead series.

Hello Nate,
Yes, when I first got these shafts I started with 175 grain field tips and they flew great but I noticed they always favored a little to the right of my point of aim. When I put the 175 grain broadheads on they told the story because they shot several inches to the right at 20 yards.
I then tried some 145 grain broadheads and they shot a little closer to point of aim but still a few inches to the right at 20 yards.
The 125 grain broadheads did pretty darn good, they just favored the right edge of point of aim.
I may take a 1/4 to 1/2 inch off my shafts and go with the 125 grain heads. I'd rather shoot 125 up front than 100.
I've got several different heads that weigh between 175 and 185, that's why I was wanting to go with that weight, but I've got enough 125's to get me through this hunting season.

There's a guy, BobW, on here, who I think is off hunting at the moment, but he has a very long draw length and foots his arrows with aluminum to achieve the length and spine he needs. He be a good one to talk to when he gets back - shot with him up at Denton Hill this year - pulling his arrows is like pulling a javelin, but they definitely go when he's aiming.

I shoot my Longwalker longbow at a 30" draw and have had great luck tuning up an AD trad lite with a 175gn. ACE head with a 75gn woodyweight.I have a wood dowel about 5" long epoxied in the shaft and then tapered like a wood shaft. 3, 5"feathers. 59#@30"

Build the sideplate out a little and you can dial em right in. I stick a peice of toothpick behind leather on the sideplate then cover that with velcro. It doesn't take that much.

I'm 6'4". 30" draw plus.
I shoot a 62" Samick Phantom recurve with 31" Easton 2117s and 125g tips with 3 5" shield cuts.
Setup works great for me. I've had no problem finding arrows.
When I shot Carbons I was shooting Beman ICS.

I shoot a Risen Son Archery [formerly Harry Elburg] 60" longbow, 50@31, I shoot a 32" long 2117 with 145 up font. Fly well when I am not struggling with my release. BTW, these 2117 also fly great out of my 64" Elburg which is [email protected] and I draw it to 31. For my little Hoyt Pro hunter I shoot a 2018, the Hoyt is a vintage bow, 45@ 28 I draw it to 31.

31" draw. I shoot 64" recurves, Wes Wallace and Brack. 65 -75#. I shoot 32" 2219, with 100 gr adaptors and 125 heads. Total arrow 732 gr with 4x5" fletch. ...or 32 inch footed hexshafts weighing 702 gr.

32" draw. My current setup is a 62" TradTech Titan pulling 56# @ 32" and shooting full length Beman ICS 340 shafts with 20-grain inserts and 125-grain tips.

Jason, what are the length of those shafts? The longest I was aware of were the Carbon Express Heritage line at 31.75" uncut. I have footed mine with aluminum, and use the insert for the aluminum shaft to gain 3/4". You can go more, leaving space at the end of the carbon (I have put pieces of carbon shaft in there) but there is a tendency to buckle the shaft on a bad impact.

Pretty close to you. . . Shooting BW SA3 and a Firefly. Both 31.5" draw and #55. Both bare-shaft tune well with a GT trad 55/75 with 240 gr. up front (100 gr. insert shaved down a bit with a 145-160gr head).

They're about 32 1/4" to 32 1/2" from the throat of the nock to the tip of the shaft.
