Just five days and the long journey begins. Myself,Mel-Irish,Andy-Tradtusker,Alan-Colorado Kid and Nigel-Leopard are headed to Oz along with some of Andy's buddies from England. We'll spend 13 days in the outback of Cape York chasin all that moves. Hogs and scrub bulls will be our main focus. Mel and I will meet up in Sydney on the 8th and head north to Townsville. We will then meet up with our outfitter Mic Baker and load up and pick the rest of the gang up early on the 10th and then the 11hr drive north to camp. Let the adventures begin!

Say hi to my mum

Thanks all for well wishes, we going to need them! Mel - I don't think were in Kansas any more, Riley has lost 25lbs working out all summer so he can outrun snakes and scrub bulls. All while I have been fighting with Richard Branson's - Virgins about baggage allowance. Mic our outfitter is already threatning to thin out our bags on arrival so all eight of us along with food and liquid refreshments fit in two trucks for the 11hr drive north to camp. What he doesn't know is that we can shorten up that 11hr drive somewhat - see Andy says I'm driving and thats on my side of the road - I'm used to driving alot on the left! Watch out roos! Hope he has some big bull bars on them trucks. Our luggage is another whole story and probably will be by time we get back. You see the virgins in Oz say only one bag 23kilos period (thats 50lbs for you guys south of the line). Now being the only lefty in the bunch and my past long distance trips tell me that the airline will lose one bag out of my two every trip so far. So my odds are not good to start with. But my answer to this is 2 bags each with a full bow/arrows/glove/broadheads etc per bag. That way if one goes missing Davee still has what it takes to getr done. So to make a long long story short Davee has two seats from Sydney to Townsville and two seats return as well. This option was another $400.00 but cheaper than the excess fees or the frieght fees they suggested. It was also suggested that I might just wing it and maybe get away with it. The downside being up to $1000.00 excess baggage fees. So not liking the feeling of being hijacked by Virgins (sounds not bad though) I elected to pay up front. This also guarantees Mel can sit beside me on flight as I have two seats!
Mike,
My arsenal consists of 2 Morrison's both Shawnees - one with 72# and 62# carbon foam limbs and the other with 64# boo limbs. For arras I'm using GT 55/75 and Alaskans loaded up front with 300xteem's and some STOS (285gr - 160gr plus 125gr insert) for backup.

I don't have to out run snakes and scrub bulls, I just got to out run who ever is standing next to me. And I needed to loose the weight anyway -darn doctors and annual physicals. Down to a trim 195 lbs!! I also will be traveling with one back pack (carry on) and two bags to check. Each bag will have one bow, 2 1/2 dz arrows. I will be have 1 Morrison recurve with carbon foam limbs (55 at 28) and one Widow PSAV (55 at 28") I can't go anywhere without at least one Widow. I will be shooting AD Trads, with STOS -about 560 arrow weight, 29" long. I will leave the REAL BIG critters to Dave.
-
How's your final weigh in looking Mel?? I've thinned mine down to 73#'s in two bags! 4500 minutes to go!!

70 lbs in two bags, plus carry on. And that is with 3 bows!! I might add my KME sharpener and Arrowmaster quiver, that will push me close to 73 lbs. Now you got me thinking that I might have forgot something, I know I bring more junk than you do.

Good hunting to you Irish and to the rest of you guys...
