Yesterday, I got up and decided to do a little scouting and stumping.
The fog was so thick You could cut it a daybreak. I knew the place I was going very well and could probably find My destination blindfolded. I've hunted this place for at least 35 years.
After I drank the cup of coffee I carried in with Me it was finally light enough to navigate the timber. The canopy is very dense in this patch of old growth Hickory, Oak and other mixed hardwoods. With the heavy dew this morning it sounded like a gentle rain falling. With no wind today it was easy to pick out the squirrel movement as they came from their dens from all the extra water falling.
I caught movement ahead of Me on the ground as a young "coon" ambled along on a trail that led to a large den tree. He was safe today but I got within about 7-8 yards before He caught Me. As he climbed the Sycamore I remembered I brought a camera for once but by the time I got it out of the case He was safe in His den.
I found the remains of someones Turkey dinner.

Lots of predators in these woods. Fox, bobcat, coyotes, hawks and owls.
Moving on I checked a old mineral lick. I don't know the last time anything was added to it but the Deer still frequent it.

There's a stand in a Oak tree about 15 yards to the East of the lick.
I continued East to a place I thought I would share with the "Gang" I've been coming here since I was probably 10 years old. It's a place You can sit for hours and listen to the water falling.

I remembered to take a picture of My bow before My batteries ran down completely.

It's a 1962 Grizzly 50# at 28" with a EFA quiver shooting some Arrow Dynamics with judo's and Ace hexheads.
I had a great morning. I jumped a few Deer, saw lots of Acorns and Hickory nuts. I shot lots of arrows at stuff. I made some great shots and some bad shots but I think I'm shooting better than last year. Thanks to all the info from TradGang.
Hope Everyone has a safe and rewarding hunting season this Year.
How foggy was it today? At 9:30 when I left the woods You could see about 100 yds.

Thanks Ben, Kevin already P.M.ed Me that fact. I've been bowhunting since I was 16 and it's always opened on the first. But if they want us in the woods 9 days earlier it's OK by Me.
I'm not going to make the Snow's shoot I have to attend a wedding in Omaha. Hope You Guys have a good time if You go.

This year is different, the weather has been so pleasant I can't wait to get in the woods. I need to start checking on the fall mushrooms also I bet there will be plenty as wet as it's been. The Papa tree's are loaded with fruit also.

Hey Tracy, any chance You could show a picture of those mushrooms. I'm sure they grow around here just never picked any in the fall.
That was a neat pic of the Bull Elk so close on Your hunt. It's different to hear of a Elk hunt that everyone had bulls so close that they couldn't shoot.
Thanks for the comments Everybody wish You could have been there.

Nice walk, our opener is Sat. I like it a bit colder but it is a chance to chase some animals.

I was checking out the pics and thinking, man that looks just like the home place. I'm from down the road a bit in Florence. Can't wait to get up there this fall.
Thanks for the pics.
