As I take care of yard work placing the last pumpkin in an old, rusty, ornamental wheel barrow my mind wanders. I can smell the decomposing leaves and fresh cut field grass. The cool air brushes my face and like always I say to myself- "Great day to be in the woods."
Living and working in the city has its good points, I guess. Due to my wifes insperation/motivation our home looks like a farm house inside and out. Able to shoot judos up and down the driveway most days. Keeps me sane. Even have a little man cave downstairs.
On my knees to pick up an errant plastic bag from under the only wooden fence for blocks around... Suddenly my fingers are inside a moist deer track. My neighbor calls out to me- "Hey Mike! Been Hunting Yet?" I just stare at him with a blank look thinking to myself- "Soon... Real Soon..."

Wishing all the best of luck and safe trips!

Tomorrow for me as well, can't wait. Putting final touches, again, on my broadheads. Saw 4 deer go across my pasture yesterday morning, acorns are dropping and it's been unseasonably cool. I'm also off work for the next two days.

Can hardly wait! I know these NY york Deer are starting to tremble! :scared:
Every time I drive past a few trees I ma thinking of how to hunt from them or near them. I am looking for pockets to hide in, I am sick and there's only one cure. It's coming quick boys!

Come up to the Northern zone. I just got in from a long walk in the woods. Stalked a couple of does but the wind was swirling and they kept winding me before I could get close enough for a shot. It was great but looks like I wont get to fill last years tag. have to pull the new one out.
It was also snowing while I was out. Sept 30th :scared:

Three weeks.
Polishing the edges of my broadheads, drawing the crests onto my arrows, time to get the truck organized and clothing sorted.
There is a chilly rain falling, leaves are becoming splashed with scarlet and gold, the woods are a little easier to see through. I work and work and work and work, six days a week, doggedly marking time, eyes fixed on a dream of oak ridges and witch hazel, spattering spring water and deep, moist hollows where the red spruce whispers secrets to the laurel. The ravens squawk those secrets openly, coarsely, in their indecipherable tongue. Oh, to be a raven, whisking over the rolling terrain, flicking through the trees, seeing all...

A couple of pics from the blind. Not a bad view. Upstate New York is gorgeous this time of year.

I moved one stand, tore down another and erected a third today. I also built a ground blind. A LOT of mast, and A LOT of sign.
Might have a very good season, I think.
