Well I’m heading out this Wed. for Mcalester. First time drawn. I have looked on aerial maps several times and can’t really find a spot that I just love. Also, it looks like we are going to have a North wind. Half of my group are coming from Western Oklahoma and think we should hunt the heavy sticks. But I'm afraid we will get winded. For those of you who have hunted Hominy. Would you recommend hunting just inside the tree lines over some good sign? I hunt similar terrain in NE OK and don’t like to pressure my already heavy pressured deer, so I stay off of them and try to cut them off going to food sources. My buddies want to get right on them in the "bedding areas". What would you guys recommend? Especially those of you that have hunted a north wind out there. Thanks for the help. Jay

I will be in Deer creek this weekend. This early in the season I would find some oaks that are dropping or persimmons. The deer haven't been pressured, so the food plots will probably be good also. The bad thing about that is alot of people will flock to them. If a guy were to find some acorns on the down wind side of a food plot and stay in the timber. I think this would be money. It's not going to take the deer long to realize they're getting hunted. When you find some oaks they have been feeding under and there is alot of fresh sign, thats where you want to be. I found this out the hard way, bad news was I didn't find the honey hole until Saturday afternoon of my hunt. Good luck!
