Folks,
Connie needs your help! After several attempts and much arm-twisting Gary and I convinced Connie to enter the Extreme Huntress Competition. The good news she is one of the top ten finalist. Now it is up to us, the general public to push her to the top. Connie is one class act and if you read her profile, her dedication to the ancient art of hunting with the bow and arrow sets her apart from the rest of the field. She deserves all recognition we can give her. So please vote at www.tahoefilms.com (http://www.tahoefilms.com) , under the Extreme Huntress Contest heading.
Thanks,
Larry

She's in second place right now and she needs ALL of us to vote.

Guys,
PAY ATTENTION TO THIS!
This contest goes until the end of the year. Connie is going to need our help and much more than just us voting.
When I got the note from Gary last night, not only did I vote, but I forwarded his note on to EVERYONE on my e-mail list. You all need to do the same. Don't just send it to your hunting buddies. Send it to your wives and have THEM send it to their girlfriends. They should be proud to help a GOOD woman.
I've had the pleasure of spending some time with Connie. She deserves to win this contest and she can show how the masses how things truly should be done!
Also remember you can only vote once on your computer, but you can vote on as many computers as you can find ;) I've already voted on three of them!
All those other girls are going to be doing the same thing. We need to be on this for the long haul

Thanks for letting us all know about this!

After reading the contestant bios she got my vote. Good luck Connie!

At 59% now with my vote.

I voted and she is crushing the competition. Enjoy your hunt Connie.
-
Connie, You got my vote! Been reading your great stories for years! yahoo girl, go get'um!
Harry.
-
Voted for Connie . I read all these woman's bios before voting . All impressive and worthy of the title. Connie stood out because she is a traditional bow hunter, made her own self bow out of Osage and her hunts were all (with the exception of one) DIY unguided.
-
gotta stay after it...ends on jan 1st...need consistant voting to keep it a blowout

I see she's "down" to 52%...no reason with as many members as we have on here that she couldn't have 10,000 votes.

I was really glad to see her back in TBM after a little respite. I love her articles and adventures.
Way to go Connie! I just voted and she is still holding the top spot!
-
Got my vote on there!
-
I think she should bake us some cookies. Or, perhaps Gary is the baker of the family 8^). At any rate, Gary and Connie are the kind of figures I like to see representing our sport...respectful, down-to-earth folk. God bless em'.
-
Bowdoc, I'm not sure that Connie posts here, or at least not often. I know she doesn't spend much time on the computer - very busy with her school and trying to fit in a little hunting when she can. But I do know her personally, and can sure vouch for her as being a great representative for trad bowhunting. Hard hunting, great ethics, and an excellent spokesperson.
I don't know any of the others that are in the running, but Connie is no doubt the cream of the crop!
-
Connie got mine.
-
BowDoc,
I think you are way off base with this one.
IF Connie can win this contest it will be a huge PR windfall for Traditional Archery. SHE will be the one going on the hunt and being shown on TV, NOT the wheelie bow or rifle girls!
How can that not be a good thing or traditional archery/hunting related?
Connie is a great ambassador for tradtional bowhunting. She is a fine lady and deserves our help. Just because she is not in here posting does not mean she is not a great contributor; different people do different things--she IMO contributes by her speaking engagements and magazine articles. She is a true traditional bowhunter and we need to use this public forum to promote OUR traditional bowhunter.
-
I enjoyed Connie's last article in TBM last month and feel she is a good Rep. for trad. bow hunting.
Just checked and she is still in 1st place, but dropped to 38%.
We need to get everyone to vote!!!
-
I voted for Connie - she has 37.3% of the votes right now, second place has 19%
-
bowdoc....this is totally trad related.its not wheather she belongs to tradgang or not but is a traditional shooter so we all have a stake in her winning.she will be a great representitive for all trad shooters members of tradgang and non member traditional hunters.shes the only trad shooter in the group so this should not even be an issue imho.
-
She got my vote, she deserves it.
-
I just put in my vote. Followed Connie's writings for quite some time.
-
Whether Connie posts here or not is beside the point...COMPLETELY.
She is part of our community and I see no reason why we/TradGang shouldn't support her if any member wishes to do so.
If you have a reason not to, then fine, but don't come on here disrespecting one of our own.
-
Just got my vote.
-
For what its worth Doc and others....wonder if this would have been perceived differently if I would have answered this email a day earlier and Whip would have started this thread instead......
From: "Joe Lasch"
To: "Terry Green"
Subject: Connie Renfro
T,
I'm not sure if this is appropriate or not, so wanted to run it by you.
There is some sort of online contest to nominate the "Most Extreme Huntress"
with the prize being a filmed hunt for the winner.
Connie Renfro is a well known traditional bowhunter, and it sure would be a
cool thing if a traditional lady could win the contest and show case our
sport. There is a link to the website promoting the contest in the message
below.
I'll bet if we put a thread on Pow Wow about it we could sure help Connie's
chances. But I don't know if it might be seen as being out of line to do
something like that so I thought I would run it past you before starting a
thread. If you think it is OK I'd be happy to get it going. If you think
it shouldn't be on Trad Gang I completely understand and there is no problem
with that either. Just thought it might be fun to try to help her along.
She is a great ambassador for traditional archery!
Thanks,
Joe Lasch

-
Although I voted for her, I am of the opinion that Connie Renfro doesn't need anybodys help.
She has done things that I could only dream of, and a lot of the time has done them herself, no help.
If she wins this, it will be because she deserves it and out did the other candidates. Read the bio's Most of what she did was by herself or with her husband, not an outfitter, and she did it all with a stick and string. Lately. . literally a stick and a string.
Congrats Connie, however this plays out.

As we all know, getting close enough to these animals for an ethical trad bow shot takes another level of dedication, concentration, skill, patience and smarts. Standing in the path of dangerous game is definitely hard core and brave, but to me, the whole traditional package, better yet, the whole primitive package that Connie utilizes to pursue and take her game leaves no doubt that she lives and breathes hunting the HARD CORE WAY. She got my vote.
-
She has a Pretty Decent Margin in that Number One Position!! :archer:

ChuckC, your right. Without our vote she's doing alright!
And I'm sure she's proud and honored of the support from the "family"!

Connie,
If you read this reply please respond. We have something in common. We both found life after NWA.
Loosing that job turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me. It will be for you as well.
Connie, next to my own daughter and best hunting pal Alicia, you are my favorite female hunter.

Since I know Connie and Gary do not participate in any forums, I got a hold of her today and sent her the links to the threads I saw Larry had started so she could see how we were trying to help. She is going thru her clinicals right now for her new medical career and it involves a lot of studying, exams, and working at the hospital till 1:30 a.m., so she is not getting in much hunting right now and certainly does NOT have time to come in here and follow along!
She asked me to post the following following for her:
To my traditional bowhunting family.......WOW -- you guys are amazing - I'm touched and humbled at the outpouring of support! Seems like that is how the traditional community works - someone asks for help and help floods in from every direction. THANK YOU seems too small of a phrase to adequately express my appreciation. I read through all the posts - I am truly honored by the kind words on my writing and hunting -- Gary and I are just regular "joes" who happen to love traditional archery and bowhunting. Some of the posts made me laugh and others tugged at the old heart strings -- to my fellow NWA friend -- I hope you are right about leaving the "flying world" being the best thing that could happen - it's been a tough road through school but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I guess in the end - someone will win this thing so wouldn't it be great to have the traditional world represented -- THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!!!!! Connie

I received an e-mail from a banker we used in Gillette, Wyoming asking me to vote for some local cowgirl from Gillette (forgot which name). I scrolled down the list and there must have been 2-3 HUNDRED names on the e-mail!
I should reply to all to vote for Connie instead!
-
Steve, pass it on, I'll do it :wavey:
I'd take your name off of it first of course...
Like I've said before, everybody should be passing the link on to everyone in their mailbox. I don't think that is happening and we are not going to get the job done just with folks registered here...even if all 20,000 did vote.
If anyone wants the original e-mail from Gary to pass along, e-mail me and I will get it to you.

I received an e-mail from Connie thanking all of us for the support. As you know this contest is akin to selling insurance. First you tap your friends and family then you must expand your network. That is what we must do now! Encourage everyone you know to log on and vote for Connie. www.tahoefilms.com (http://www.tahoefilms.com) , under the Extreme Huntress Contest heading.
Maybe it’s the old lineman in me that wants to be on the winning team. I find great pleasure in helping others reach the goal line. So please let’s all help push Connie towards her goal.
-
keep in mind people this is a contest---connie and gary are very good friends of ours and I dont want any sour apples cast, I am sure the renfros would agree.
connie is a very serious hunter, but if you read her bio carefully you will see' she wants no special quarters.
thats the kind of class act she is, trust me she wanted no part of this, but when your elected class president you feel a responsibility to your people.
I wish her the best of luck,

Everyone,
I got a note from Connie today--all the contestants got the following from the contest people:
I was hoping not to have to deal with the issue of cheating, but accusations have recently come to my attention. I sure hope you are all urging your friends and family to vote for you ONE time and ONE time only.
The on-line voting is set up so only one vote can be registered from each IP address (Internet Protocol which is a number assigned your computer when you log on via your internet provider). Yes, sometimes when you log on your internet provider may provide a new IP address, thus you can vote again. That said, anyone on a network computer system will find that if someone in the system has already voted they can't vote. I tell folks who complain to go home and vote on their personal computer.
I would urge each and every one of you to promote a fair contest. If I can substantiate anyone participating in the promotion of additional voting or cheating they will be disqualified — no questions asked
The goal of this contest is to promote women in hunting and, hopefully, get more woman (and kids) involved in the sport. As the son of a long time outdoor writer, the outdoor heritage is paramount in my life. With it has come a traditional lifestyle which includes being honest and respecting others.
Let's not give our efforts a black eye due to someone's greed.
So, you can see how important it is for all of you to send out an e-mail to all your friends and family. We want Connie to win fair and square and that will be the only way we can get it done. Take five minutes to put the link out there to your address book :campfire:

Good luck Connie.
Just to let you all know what a class act she is. Ten years ago while we were still living in Colorado my daughter who was 8 yrs. old at the time was dealing with classmates who was telling her she was wierd. Only because all she wanted to do with her time after school was shoot her recurve and talk about being able hunt when she became of the age that she could do so legally. She would cry telling her mother and I about this. At our annual club banquet my wife was sharing this with Connie and she took it upon herself to come over and talk to my daughter and encouraged her to follow her dreams. Needless to say my daughter was beamimg from ear to ear and came running to me explaining that she knew nothing was wrong with her and that she was going to keep on shooting and hunt when she got old enough. When Horn Hunter stated her being a class act, I could not agree more with his statement. Her and Gary both are top knotch individuals and great represenatives of our sport. God Bless you Connie my vote is for you.

Keep it fresh and up top, Get all your buds to join in and vote.

Have been reading about Connies hunting trips from TBM and she seems to be a very good hunter and a very nice person! So a vote from Finland to her...and she was the first just minutes ago. GO Connie!
-
Connie is only in the lead by .2% thats POINT 2 PERCENT...that is not much.
Keep up the good work gents  We've got to keep it up.
-
we need all tradgangers to be sent a pm and vote then it will be a blowout
-
She is tied for first place
-
my vote!!!!! hope she wins and writes another article,

Connie is behind now. The leader is on a lot of the other hunting sites campaigning for votes. It is going to be hard to compete with that, but if we want a traditional archer to be able to showcase what we love to do, you all are going to have to take a little time and spread the word.
-
Has anybody that goes to the other "Traditional" sites posted for somevotes for Connie? If not lets do. The only other one I know of is the PA site. Whatever we can do, lets do.

Guys,
The has been a post on the LW since the day it started here. It's got around 200 posts. I keep telling you, you have GOT to e-mail the link to the people in your address book, let them know what it is about and why Connie should be the winner. Ask them to pass it on too. That is the ONLY way we are going to get enough votes to help Connie.
Here is the link to the poll, pass it on:
https://www.tahoefilms.com/poll.php
Connie is 1.4% behind now...
-
is it on the widow wall also?
-
yep, but all of US know it is there and are voting...we need MORE people and OTHER people to vote!
-
I just sent it to my entire mail box.

Ahem... This whole thread is starting to taste a little sour. I voted for Connie (once) back when this thing was less than a page long. Never had much use, personally, for a prize you had to win by less than scrupulous means. Maybe Connie does, maybe not. I don't know her, but I hope she's turned her back to this by now.
Sometimes a good thing can get out of hand and become something else. I wish her luck. Hope she keeps writing.
-
Curtis,
Please take the time to read page 16 and page 18 of this thread. You will see Connie does not want to win by anything less than ethical means.
Obviously the video company wants people to visit thier website. They are definitely getting something out of this. We can get something out of it too...the point is, Connie is a great ambassador for us, traditional bowhunters, and if we can help her win, we know she will show us in a positive light.
I just looked up the vote and Connie has fallen behind by almost 4%. Like I said, we are not going to help her here unless people start getting the word OUT.
You know, Connie did not want to do this in the first place. She is not doing it for herself. She's taken all the animals offered on the hunt..BIG ones at that. She's doing it to promote traditional bowhunting. Voting for this contest is something that takes very little time and effort and it is a shame more folks can't take a few minutes to help promote something they love.
Thanks though to all that are helping, and to those that are not--take a few minutes and lend a hand!

thats it'''i'm goin global with this''''

She got my vote a couple of minutes ago. I can't think of anyone more deserving of the title and the hunting trip. Anyone who's read her articles and stories in Traditional Bowhunter knows Connie is first rate.
Right now, she's in a strong 2nd place in the balloting but over 300 votes behind the leader.
Connie needs YOUR vote.
-
I noticed that the lady currently in 1st place is advertising for votes on her Facebook page. She seems to be using every outlet possible to sell herself. Just an accurate observation. I don't really know much about her. The point is that the competition is pulling out the big guns to beat Connie.

Check out this link. She's even using YouTube:^(

Hey guys!
Thanks for supporting one of our entries in the Extreme Huntress Contest. After receiving several emails and reviewing this thread I'm going to ask you all a favor. In order to have a fair contest I would ask that you be honest and vote ONLY once for your favorite Extreme Huntress! The contest is set up to only allow one vote per IP address. If you go to another computer you now can vote a second time. Some internet providers will give your computer a new IP address the next time you log on. PLEASE be honest and only vote once! If we discover any contestant cheating or promoting any type of cheating they will be removed from the contest.
The idea of the contest is to promote hunting - more specifically spotlighting woman who hunt, hoping more woman and CHILDREN will get involved.
Don't ruin a good thing by over voting or cheating. We want you to ask all your friends and family to vote. Just vote once, please.
Thanks,

Yellow Dog...
Have you read page 16 and 18 of this thread? There are comments from Connie there. She doesn't "do" forums per se, but she sure has contributed quite a bit thru her magazine articles and speaking engagements at many local, state, and national events.
-
So have we resorted to voting multiple times to give her an advantage? That is not what should be going on. Fairness should be at the forefront on this forum.

I voted multiple times from different computers for my family members who wanted to vote for her but couldn't vote from my computer because I did already. I think that is fair.
-
the whole deal is not very fair when you see how the #1 contender has pimped herself on nearly every forum out there... whether or she has ever been a contributor there or not.
pretty shameless imho.
maybe everybody should vote "early and often" for miss #1, and call lots of attention to themselves
whoops... i never said that .... it would be against the "rules" :readit: :D
-
George--you--actually everyone--should go back and read page 16 and 18.
Then, every one of the 20some thousand members here should take the ten seconds it takes to make two clicks on the computer to vote for the lady that hunts the right way, on her own with traditional equiptment.
I cannot for the life of me understand why this is so much trouble :banghead:
What does it hurt to take 10 seconds to do something nice for someone who has contributed a TON to the education and entertainment of just about every single person here wheter it was done here on this board or thru TBM or a bowhunter banquet , festival, or show.
-
Steve O, what are you talking about? I'm asking about voting multiple times. That doesn't bother you? My guess is, each and every one of those hunters/huntresses, are very respectable folk who contribute much as well. I'm talking fairness....not casting a vote. I already voted....once, and I won't cheat to help someone else lose unfairly. Do as you wish.
-
George,
I posted info from Connie on PAGES 16 and 18.
Please go read PAGES 16 and 18 of this thread.
I don't want anybody cheating, Connie doesn't want anyone cheating! And it says so on page 18.
I'd like to see Connie, who I feel has been a fantastic representative of traditional archery, win this contest and she could if guys would take the 10 seconds to vote for HER and pass it along to thier friends and family.
-
George, you should go to the site and read the bios of all the contestants.
-
Hi, my name is Lee Francis, I am Rebecca Francis's husband who is a competitor in this contest. I have been watching this site for months because I love the info on how to build bows, strings, etc...I built my first bow when I was 13, and I have built several since. I have been an avid archer all my life. My favorite bow is a sinew backed flat osage self bow.
I haven't wanted to enter into this discussion, but I feel I need to make a couple of comments. First, the heading of this forum it says:
"Tradgang.com has a zero tolerance for disrespect directed to anyone. If you want to disagree, then please do so in an adult manner".
I don't feel it is necessary to run down one contestant just because you prefer another one. (Elkherder and HomerDave) My wife does not pimp herself!!!
Disparaging remarks, especially if they are untrue, do not make your preferred competitor look better, but make you look small. I really believe that if my wife were not in this contest, Connie would be mine and my wife's first choice, as we have had a lifelong interest in traditional archery also. Both me and my wife think Connie is awesome and has collected magnificent animals that anyone would be proud to have. She is obviously a great hunter. My wife and I would love to meet her! But I don't believe that Connie is the type of person that would encourage or condone this type of behavior. My wife has never spoken an unkind word about any of the other contestants. In fact, when asked, she has always made very positive comments about them.
For your information she has been a traditional archer for the past 15 years ever since I built her an antler tipped recurve bow. She has also taken trophies with her recurve. But not yet her long bow, but we hope to remedy next week in Texas.
Rebecca has also contributed countless hours in our community with conservation groups and womens and childrens groups, instructing them in archery.
I want to commend those in this forum that have integrity and honesty (George D. Stout and others) who vote for the person they choose because they think that person is best. You don't have to run others down.
The point of this contest obviously is to bring in exposure for Tahoe films. The only way these girls can get their votes is to let everyone know who they are and what they are about. Hopefully this can be done by building up your contestant of choice rather than degrading others.
Lee Francis
-
Also, everyone of these contestants are awesome people that have incredible traits and have incredible stories. I wish we had the opportunity to get to know each of them better. These are not the run of the mil hunters....they are all extreme huntresses. Wouldn't it be amazing to get them all together? We wish in the contest the best of luck, and hope friendships are built when this is over.
-
sorry bro but show me the post i made saying anyone was pimping themselves
-
just went through entire thread and not once did i type disparaging remarks about anyone in any fashion.i am not the type of guy to talk bad about people i have never met.may the best woman win.but i will stand up for myself when i feel i've been falsly accused of anything.
-
So it has come down to name calling, that's to bad. Maybe in all fairness this post should be pulled, just my thoughts.
-
Hey, the Francis's are trad folks. Welcome to the Gang. Lee, i would love to see some pics of your bows. I'm getting that itch to make another and can use just a touch more inspiration. Good luck on the Texas hunt, please share pics.
-
Hey elkherder, I'm sorry, you are absolutely right! Your name should not have been included in this. Where the misunderstanding on my part took place is from this post on stickbow:
"Elkherder- as a matter of fact, I was just reading on another forum and there is one woman who admittedly is posting to every hunting forum she can, and soliciting for votes by posting pictures of herself (including one of herself in a bikini) and promising to come hunt with many of the men on that forum. Sadly, she seems to have taken the lead by doing so. Connie is as real as they come and I hate to see her lose to somebody who has resorted to such dirty tactics. I guess it doesn't really matter who the real "huntress" is, but rather who can garner the most hits for their website.
Sorry for the vent, but I really really want to see Connie get the recognition she deserves.
-Cheryl"
This was addressed to you, not written by you.
I am very sorry, I can admit when I was wrong.
It's great that are gung ho for your the contestant of your choice.
-
Hey also want you all to know that we think that 99% of the people in trad archery are amazing people. We would never participate in name calling. Let's look at the big picture guys...we are all for the very same thing. Let's make this contest a fun experience for these women who so rightly deserve the recognition.
I will send some pics of my bow because I am having a problem with the sinew backing on my bow. I would really like to use tradgang as a resource. I feel that all the really knowledgeable bowyers are members of this site.
-
its ok broken bow,we all make mistakes brother.no harm here.i've never even read that message wheres it at on stickbow?

In the interest of equal time, here is a link to Mrs. Francis' page:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Rebecca-Francis/168059914591
I still think Connie would be a better representative.
-
been to that site, i see that she has a new profile pic added with a trad bow, and she took down the photo of her posing next to a dead bear that had been "dressed up" for the pic.
i rest my case and i ain't taking anything back

Steve O, thanks for directing me to the right pages of this thread
