Do you hunt on a lease or public land?

I hunt on private land. We have some nice bucks if you can find them....thicker than hair on a dog's back. They can walk within 25 yds of you and never know it. Tons of acorns this year, so they don't have to move to eat....makes it double tough.

I'm down here in Kingwood, just across the river from Humble. I hunt public land here in Texas, and try to hunt the family farm in Kansas every now and then.

I think some kind of pineywoods get together is in order....perhaps chasing some hogs or squirrels would be a good idea.

That would be so cool if we had snow for the am hunt!  It is going to be chilly willy!  For us southern east texas boys in the 20's is just down right cold.  Better were some layers and the head cover.

Native East Texas Redneck but now live in Texas City. Angelina is a good place to get together. Deer, hogs, bear (no season), Bigfoot, ducks, fish or whatever. Couple of flatbottoms pulling canoes can get you well off the beaten path.

Live in Port Arthur, hunt in Houston county near Crockett. Is Alazan open to hunting year round?

Alazan is closed at times.  You can hunt hogs and bait them after January.  TPWD has info on the area and when closed open.  There is a camping area.  I think it would be awesome if we could get a hunt together after Jan.

You can corn the hogs then and get them coming.  I live close to the unit, so I could get out and get some area on the unit ready.  The camping area is primitive, No hookups.  Be nice to sit around the campfire other than the cyber one and visit with fellow tradgangers from East Texas Area.

I live right beside Alazan. The hunting has been a little slow this season. Have seen several 1 1/2 yr old bucks but ones over 13" are hard to come by. When the river bottom was flooded about a month ago the hogs were concentrated in the overgrown fields but with the receding of the water they have dispersed back into the bottom and over into the SFA land.I would love to meet and hunt with y'all !

You cannot bait the hogs until after the last day of waterfowl season.  I think that is around the end of Jan.

What kinda country are you guys seeing most of the deer in right now?

All of our Red Oak and Post Oak acorns are gone, but we still have tons of Pin Oak acorns. I moved a stand down in a Pin Oak bottom today....hopefully I'll start seeing a few more critters.

Here is what I was thinking.  Set up camp on the evening of Dec 27 and hunt through the 30th.  That way you could have a shot at deer and hog.

On the map/rules that is online for the TPWD, it says that archery deer Nov. 17-30.  It says nothing about the unit being open in Dec. for archery hunting deer.  I will call tommorrow and find out for sure.

I'm not a hundred percent sure I gave my book to a student.  A friend of mine who hunts there all the time said it was open.  Let me know what you found out dragonheart.

I called Ron Mize the unit manager and he confirmed that the unit is open for deer till 1/3/10.  On the web, I was looking at the old map regulations.  I will have to get out to the unit and hunt before the end of the year.

I leave on January 6-10 for a doe/spike hunt in Llano, so that weekend is out for me.  You can bait after the last day of waterfowl season. If we do not care about baiting the hogs then sometime in January.  Any thoughts?
