Was Just wondering how many of you fellars are from my neck of the woods deep in the piney woods of East Texas.
-
Well, I'm not exactly in "Deep" East Texas but close. I live in Humble, Tx although I hunt in "Deep" East Texas ( Newton, Tx ).
-
Here Boss.....Elkhart....between Palestine and Crockett.
-
Do you hunt on a lease or public land?
-
I hunt on private land. We have some nice bucks if you can find them....thicker than hair on a dog's back. They can walk within 25 yds of you and never know it. Tons of acorns this year, so they don't have to move to eat....makes it double tough.
-
Yep Billy around here when water and food is plentiful they have a tendency to stay put and are hard to get too you only have luck when love is on thier mind.
-
You misspelled "their". :D
You know where I'm at! How you been Chris?
Mike
-
I'm down here in Kingwood, just across the river from Humble. I hunt public land here in Texas, and try to hunt the family farm in Kansas every now and then.
I think some kind of pineywoods get together is in order....perhaps chasing some hogs or squirrels would be a good idea.
-
Lufkin,TX here.
-
Beaumont, TX present and accounted for!
-
Well, not sure if it counts, but Pittsburg, Texas. You can take the man outa Texas, but you can't take Texas outa the man.
-
Henderson here..
-
Just moved up here from jefferson texas,,,deep north east texas backwoods.
-
Been doing great Mike. We need to spend some time the week after christmas chasin hogs at Alazan got a new 8 man alaskan guide tent and need to get the new off of it. Any of you fellas ever hunted Alazan.
-
I live in South East Texas
-
Southwest side of Houston, not exactly east Texas.
-
Bald Hill here.
-
Hey Fellas,
I'm here in Fairfield TX. How are you doing Billy? Good to hear from you.
-Hillbilly
-
just northwest of you in Nacogdoches, Texas., I hunt on private land up by Alto, and public land. I have hunted at Alazan, how about getting a pig hunt together at Alazan after the turn of the year and we can put your tent to use. Interested?

I'll be huntin in morning.Hopefully we'll have some snow on the ground.Makes for a easy tracking job.
-
That would be so cool if we had snow for the am hunt! It is going to be chilly willy! For us southern east texas boys in the 20's is just down right cold. Better were some layers and the head cover.
-
Native East Texas Redneck but now live in Texas City. Angelina is a good place to get together. Deer, hogs, bear (no season), Bigfoot, ducks, fish or whatever. Couple of flatbottoms pulling canoes can get you well off the beaten path.
-
Live in Port Arthur, hunt in Houston county near Crockett. Is Alazan open to hunting year round?
-
Alazan is closed at times. You can hunt hogs and bait them after January. TPWD has info on the area and when closed open. There is a camping area. I think it would be awesome if we could get a hunt together after Jan.
You can corn the hogs then and get them coming. I live close to the unit, so I could get out and get some area on the unit ready. The camping area is primitive, No hookups. Be nice to sit around the campfire other than the cyber one and visit with fellow tradgangers from East Texas Area.

Livingston here. Hunt private land in Polk county but prefer to camp and hunt in the Davy Crockett Nat'l Forest in Houston county
-
I don't know if north east Texas counts, Gilmer here.
-
10 miles outside of Trinity.

I live right beside Alazan. The hunting has been a little slow this season. Have seen several 1 1/2 yr old bucks but ones over 13" are hard to come by. When the river bottom was flooded about a month ago the hogs were concentrated in the overgrown fields but with the receding of the water they have dispersed back into the bottom and over into the SFA land.I would love to meet and hunt with y'all !
-
I've been wanting to try the Alazan...I've heard good things about that place.
-
Nice to see there is a lot of local fellars on here.
-
Well lets see about setting a date for a hunt its about 3000 acres so can acommadate a few hunters. Weekends I'm open.
-
I would definitely enjoy getting together and spinning some bowhunting yarns and doing some actual hunting. Lets do it.
-
I'm in, lets do it! Maybe after Christmas sometime?
-
Since I'm a teacher the week after christmas is perfect. The weekend after the new year is also great. Any other suggestions.
-
I spend alot of time in the Cleveland area.
-
You cannot bait the hogs until after the last day of waterfowl season. I think that is around the end of Jan.
-
I'm in Longview. Have 2 buddies here who are trad. shooters.
-
Any you East Texas boys out there after them this morning?.....too cold for me....it was 20 degrees when I got up. Cold weather is tuff on me, now that i've reached the (gloden years) :)
-
I was got to watch a nice 9 pointer running does for about 10 min. Already have my big buck for this year so no pressure just nice watching.
-
I saw one doe this AM. The hogs have returned and did a number on the ground in front of the cabin. Chris, got any photos of your buck?
-
What kinda country are you guys seeing most of the deer in right now?
All of our Red Oak and Post Oak acorns are gone, but we still have tons of Pin Oak acorns. I moved a stand down in a Pin Oak bottom today....hopefully I'll start seeing a few more critters.
-
Nope no pics wife don't trust me with electronics in the woods. ;)
-
Maybe after the Christmas or after New Years we can get together and shoot some.
BDann...pm sent.
-
Sounds like a plan starting to me.
-
Here is what I was thinking. Set up camp on the evening of Dec 27 and hunt through the 30th. That way you could have a shot at deer and hog.
-
Chris, I think the unit is closed to deer hunting, Is that correct or incorrect?
Jeff
-
Jeff, it has opened up for deer after all draw hunts were completed.
-
So you can hunt right now till when for deer?
-
On the map/rules that is online for the TPWD, it says that archery deer Nov. 17-30. It says nothing about the unit being open in Dec. for archery hunting deer. I will call tommorrow and find out for sure.
-
Opened thru Jan 3rd for archery deer.
-
I'm not a hundred percent sure I gave my book to a student. A friend of mine who hunts there all the time said it was open. Let me know what you found out dragonheart.
-
I called Ron Mize the unit manager and he confirmed that the unit is open for deer till 1/3/10. On the web, I was looking at the old map regulations. I will have to get out to the unit and hunt before the end of the year.
-
Hey fellars lets see if we can jump up the planning for this hunt. Any of you fellas that are interested got any ideas on some dates that will work?
-
Just left Tyler, TX and moved to paradise (NW Arkansas), I do miss the pigs, but the deer hunting is much better here.
-
I leave on January 6-10 for a doe/spike hunt in Llano, so that weekend is out for me. You can bait after the last day of waterfowl season. If we do not care about baiting the hogs then sometime in January. Any thoughts?
