I just read kevgsp's post about the beaver tail grip. very impressive! I just purchased a new Kanati from a Trad. Gang member and was wondering what other type of unique grips do members have on your bows. Post some pictures I looking for some ideas.
Thanks Al

I have a base ball bat grip on one I am trying now to see how I like it. Not bad and cheap. Not real trad.

Wrapped and then laced.
You can also wind something over the grip, then wet form thin leather over it. Provides for a very secure grip... I'll see if I can dig up an old pic

Here's one I have used on several bows. It's just a wrap with leather lace, available at Tandy Leather.
Would work best on a longbow type grip, I imagine.

Good ideas gang. Lets keep them coming need to see some more.

I don't have a photo handy but I have found that bicycle handlebar tape, which comes in various colors and is made with various materials (my favorite is black cork) is a wonderful grip material--it's already got self-stick on it and it's absorbent, too. Buy a set and you have enough for 4-5 bow grips for just under $10 or so.

I like the Sure grips. They can be tough to install but they work great.

Scattershot,
That is exactly like the grip I did on my longbow! Yours is the only other one I've seen like it.
I think it's one of the best looking options there is out there. A bit slow and tedious but worth it.
Did you have trouble gluing it in place? I used contact cement and trying to get a couple feet glued then wrapped while still connected to the spool was a bit of a pain.

Like the looks of some of those grips.

Shur-Grip on left, Tennis Racket Handle Tape(gel core) on right. I prefer the Tennis Tape. Much cheaper also.

You wouldnt believe how nice hair on deer hide is for a grip.My buddy "Roadkill" uses it on his old bear longbow and it really molds to each hand that shoots it.Ill be using it on a selfbow soon.
-
I saw some stuff for pistol grips you warmed up and then gripped it and it molded to your hand,Can't remember the name will try and find it.But the stuff was cool it molded to every finger.
-
Dave, you're right, it was a pain. I used Barge cement, and spread the glue on a short section of the handle, then wrapped it. Sometimes it seemed like I needed three hands, but I got it done. Here's a Hill I did that way, too. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v103/scattershot/IMGP3738.jpg)

Try it naked first. The finish Jason puts on them works just fine for me without any wrap. I had a shurgrip on it at first because it came that way. Once I took it off and tried it without, I'd never cover it again. Of course, the grip is a perfect fit for my hand, which probably makes all the difference.

I personally put a beavertail grip on all of my personal bows and quite a few on customer bows. If you do a search for bigjim or buffalo bows you can see the grips. I don't know much about computers and posting here i'm told is difficult.
All of my customers that get the beaver tail option report it to be the best they've had.
It is very thin, extremely tough, gives the right amount of slip resistant and doesn't break down from repeated use or moisture.
It can be difficult for most to install since it doesn't stretch well, but I have been able to install them on widow recurves albeit a minor challenge.

I have several bows with different grips.
I think the medium grip is the easiest to get used to if you shoot more than one bow. But when Tested the Black Douglas with their medium grip that is higher than most other medium grips it did take a time to get used to, but when u use it and "turn" your wrist correctly it is awesome. I think it all boils down to how your shooting form is.

Enjoy your Kanati, never tested one but heard they are great shooters :archer:

Simms Vibration Labs has a wrap that provides a sure grip and works when wet.

If we are talking cheap functional then there is a product called Wrap Seal for fixing pipes and other things. It is 1" wide and 8' long in the role I got. It is thicker and wider than electrical tape. It has more of a rubber feel to it. I have not used it for a bow grip, but it would work well for that I think. It has a release paper on one side and it can be stretched a lot if you want so it should stay down well and mold well. I have some, and I may try it out just to see. I got it at one of the big box lumber stores.

the tape you wrap base ball bat or golf club handles great grip plus some cushioning
