Title: bacote limb cores?
Post by: Bodork on December 23, 2009, 10:44:00 AM
Was wondering if any of you had opnions about using bacote for limb cores? I usually use bamboo or actionwood with exotic veneers and clear glass. I'm kicking around the idea of black glass, gray actionwood veneers(parallels) and bacote cores(tapers) but I wasn't sure how the bacote would perform.
If any of you are familiar with my bows, you are aware that looks are as important as function to me. With this combination, I'm thinking it would make a killer stripe along the length of the bow. I plan on making an identical stripe in the riser using ebony or african blackwood as the base. I did this combination on a knife and absolutley love it. A matching knife might also be in the works. Here is a pic of the stripe in the knife.

How about bacote veneers over boo? Then you dont have to decide between looks and performance.

I think the "Bow Gods" would be very dissapointed in you for covering up Bacote!

Bacote is a heavier wood,I like them as veneers over a lighter weight core wood like bamboo or actionboo.

That is my concern. The bacote being a heavy wood. Will it really make that much difference? Any others?
