What is the draw weight of your favorite hunting bow?
-
UMmmmmm .... 50#s for my all around hunting bows.
-
80# Hill
-
55# on a 60" recurve.
53# on a 68" longbow, second favorite.
Mike
-
Every recurve I own draws 50-55 at my 28.5 draw length...
-
you snapshootin that 80lbs straitera?????????
-
I'm not a bowhunter yet, but my longbow pulls 70#.
-
45#
-
56# zipper extreme. anywhere between 55#-60# and i'm happy.
-
48 @30 pounds ... longbow.
-
51.333# @ 28"
-
48-50 # at my draw.
-
all my bows are 46# to 51# at my draw.
-
my curent hunting bow is 60lbs
-
.333?????? what's that all bout? like some kinda dangling participle?
-
Everything that I own is between 41 and 45 lbs. @ 28 inches. I draw right at 30" and am quite happy with the results that I am getting.
Winterhawk1960
-
55 @ 27".....
-
52 @ 28.
-
62 @28 1/2"
-
51@27 but soon to have a 54@27.
-
All the bows I hunt with are between 50# and 80#. Prefer hunting with 65-80#, both longbows and recurves.
And yes kybowman, I do snap shoot the 80#er.
I do own bows down to 30#, but everything under 50# is for the use of those that don't shoot much, or are just learning to shoot trad bows.
( don't mean that's the only people that should shoot these weights; I mean that is who shoots my bows in that weight range.)
Also I have nothing against those that choose to shoot lighter weight bows. I just prefer the heavier weights, I shoot them well and have been shooting them since I was about 12 or 14. Will continue as long as my body allows me to.
Between 50# and 65# I mostly use for small game, although I do prefer 60# for Turkey. Guess because the 60# is a short bow and easy to shoot from a tight blind or while sitting.
-
Don't have a specific favorite bow but something in the low to mid 40s is what I shoot most when hunting. They won't less us hunt with lighter bows here because of the 40lb min.I guess the size of our bears makes them err on the heavy side for bow weights.
-
60-65 for Elk,around 55 for deer,65 for hogs.
-
42-44# at my draw length, the results are awesome!
-
45-56#

The more a person can shoot the more weight he can shoot. At one time I had a 30yd range in the back yard and shot more days than not. I was comfortable w/ bows in the mid 60s draw weight and didn't need to snap shoot, I could hold for awhile. Shot them pretty well.
Then I got all busy with work, etc., eventually sold the house and now have to load up gear and drive 5 miles to shoot. Over a period of several years I went from shooting most days to maybe 3-4 times a month. I now shoot bows in the high 40s to low 50s. 50#s is a requirement in Wyo for elk so that's what I generally hunt with.
-
Zipper extreme, 57# at 29
-
54 to 56 @ 26
-
62
-
54 to 61# all with clickers
-
My bows rang from 43# to 52# at my draw length. I used to shoot bows in the mid 60# range but the older I get the better the lighter bows feel.
-
Right now my go to bow is a 54@28" Schafer TD Curve.Next year will be 60.Slowly working up to the 60-65 range.
-
'bout 51-52# at my draw length.
-
50# for me but I like to shoot 45# for 3-D.
-
Have a 45, and my new CM is sposed to be 50ish. I would like to build a bow that's around 60 though, just for the hell of it to see if I can pull something with a little weight on it...
-
57# for everything. I have several bows at that weight. I hunt, 3d and target shoot all with them

I don't snap shoot because I can't hold the 80# bows.
I snap shoot because that's the way I learned to shoot pheasant when I was young, and still tend to shoot deer that way. I prefer to draw and shoot in one quick motion, don't hold at anchor unless I'm shooting targets or sometimes on 3D.
( Just want to clarify that point.)
-
55lb at 30.25 inches.
-
I get about 55 out of mine
-
50# with a 550-600 gr arra
-
42@28 pulled to 30

BlackWidow sax Bocote 49@28. Widow

Anywhere from 52# to 57#. My 56# Silvertip is in the woods the most during deer season though.

Morrison 50 @ 31.5 Gotta love that stroke
-
65# kohanah kurve
-
Favorite is my RER Vortex longbow. About 60# at a little over 29".
-
All of my favorite bows are 47# to 53# -- My current favorite of the group is a 50# 58" bear takedown recurve. Very smooth and accurate.
-
46# Kanati
-
52# hybrid flinging a 530gr at 175fps
-
47-52#
-
53@28 drawn to 27" so I guess about 50
-
The Jag T/D is about 58@31"
The Rogue is 54@31"
My LB is about 53@31"
Yes, I'm a knuckle dragger.
-
A & H ACS 53 @ 28
Centaur 51 @ 28
-
50-54 for me. It gets super cold here sometimes in the winter and after a long cold day of sitting in a tree I can't draw a 60 pounder.
-
My two favorite hunting bows at this time are 71# and 75#.
-
48# for most situations but I also have a set of 42# and 52# limbs.
-
59# @ 27 MAII
60# @ 27 SAIII
57# @ 27 Tim Meigs
-
45 to 48# are all my hunting bows and limbs.
-
All my bows are between 50 and 58#.
-
60 pounds
-
50#..... :archer:
-
All of my bows are between 37-42 pounds.
-
The 3 bows I use the most draw 48-49
# @ 27". The other bows I have range from 40# to 60#. Jim
-
71# ferguson Z58
-
60-65# at 30 inches
-
53-58# works for me.
-
75# Hill and 80# Silvertip, approximately 78# and 83# respectively at my draw length. I don't snap shoot (I'm no good at it); I have to go through a process of draw, anchor, hold, aim, release. However, as I don't hunt big animals all the time, and mainly hunt pigs, I am going to start shooting 65# (68# for me) bows more.
-
62#@27
-
Just looked there are 5 between 42 and 47 pounds. Two that are 51# and 53# and one 57#er. (All at 28") I still shoot them all but the only time the 57# gets shot much is before an out west trip. I draw right at 30" and that one gets to be a bit much on my aging shoulders.
My go to bow is a Ferret 53# at my 30". I would use it for anything on this map.
DD
-
Silvertip 52#@28", 60" one piece
-
54# to 64# with 57# being about perfect, drawing 28" for longbows 29" for recurves, shafts 650 grains or better, 25% FOC plus, single bevel 2 blade BH, perfectly tuned arrows yields awesome firepower!
-
FireFly 57#@28, and home made 62#@28.
-
50-53#. For some reason, going above that makes it harder to shoot with any accuracy. Took alot of bows to figure that out.
-
While I can draw and shoot in the 60 - 65# range I like the feel on my 50#@29", 66" LB. Not too heavy to hold yet heavy enough to take down anything from rabbits to ... ?. Nothing bigger than anything I'm likely to shoot that I want a heavier weight for.
Used to shoot a 70# wheelie, bare finger, a looooooonnngg time ago. :D Met a guy back then who was shooting a 125# wheelie.
I couldn't even pluck the string on that thing!
Nothing whatsoever AGAINST a heavier weight. If ya shoot it and ya like it, then God Bless ya-keep on shootin' it!
Matter of personal choice/preference-same as every other aspect of life. :archer:
-
I prefer 53-58# for 90% of my hunting can go up to and comfortably shoot 2 of my bows that are 62# but not that much reason too.
Gene :wavey:

The heaviest bow I ever drew was a 150 elephant bow made by jennings at an archery shoot. I pulled it back 6 or 8 times right handed then did the same left handed and handed it back to him. Didn't think much of it until the day. I have hunted with very heavy stuff, but these days low 50s will do.
-
53lbs at my my draw length
-
60lb, and 55lb, depending on the bow and my mood.
-
Really depends on what critter I'm after...
55# - 73# at my 29" draw, but for deer I seem to gravitate to my 60# Shawnee, she has done me well...
-
I have shot the same Predator for over ten years, it weighs in at 73 lbs at my draw length. A 650 to 750 grain arrow from it carries alot of energy.
I hope to order a new fancy looking Predator in March, and I`m gonna get it the same specs as the one I have.
-
43#er
-
42 - 65#, but my no.1 bow is 54# MA III and usually around 50# seems to be best for me.
-
I have them from 49 to 77. My favorite is about 53 at my draw. The 77 only gets broken out for stuff like on my avitar photo. Way too hard on the shoulders to shoot every day.
-
Was hunting with a 65# recurve. When it got cold down here I was afraid I'd be too stiff to make a good shot so I dropped back to my 55#. That's feelin' right too me.
-
My favorite is 50# plus or minus 2 or 3.
-
40#to55# 52# is my favorite
-
44#@26" longbow 47@26 recurve
-
55...cause I want my shoulders to stay intact so I can hunt when I turn grey.
-
149 pounds @ 17.3 inches :D
-
Mine is a hill 150# and a JD mojo recurve bow 146#.
-
switched bows and now am @ 47lbs
-
47# @ 28. Seems to work ok, haven't gotten on any big game with it yet, though.
-
42# to 45# @29" is real comfortable for me.
-
41# on my one piece but I'm looking at a 45# Chek Mate Hunter II.
-
Anywhere from 77# - 85# at my draw. No snapshooting, draw , anchor, release when feels right. But that being said I think I may get a lower weight whenever I get another. Maybe 65#, which would be bout 70# for me. Easier to find and tune arrows.
-
All my bows are 62# - 67#. Any new bows I order will be in the 57# - 59# range. Haven't bought a new one in 10 yrs, so I think I'm due...right? 8^). Dropping in weight cuz I'm gettin' older.
-
60-70@29 1/2"
-
Longbow 53# @ my draw
Curve 60# @ my draw
-
49#@28 PSA
-
50 plus or minus a pound or two for me.
-
I'm finally very comfortable with 55@28. If I can find the right bow in a takedown, I'm gonna try to work up to a few more pounds for elk.
-
45# Bear recurve, 44# Horne longbow for up to TX whitetail
-
57-60#s @ 30" My Howatt Hunter and my longbow.
-
Was using a martin viper at 60#, probably 66# at my 31" draw. My son got me trying a compound, and although it seemed ok to draw the next day my arm hurts. That was 2 months ago. Now my viper hurts too.
Point being, stay away from those dang wheelies...
-
Age has a way of making us more aware of our raw strength and the balance and alignement of your skeleton. Go with what you can easily control.
For me, thats low 40# at my 26.5" draw.
-
About 52#s
-
My current favorite bow is 68#@30"...have done most of my hunting with between 53-55#@30", but I shot those so much they got a little too easy to draw. It took me too long to achieve the back tension I like to feel and I felt I was giving away a bit of the advantage of shooting a traditional bow by waiting so long to get the shot off. The 68# seems a more forgiving as well. I have a Northern Mist longbow on the way as well that will be right about 71# at my 30" draw.
Craig
-
My widow is 52lbs@27 inches.I can pull it,but wish I had ordered @42 lbs
-
48# at 26"
-
my robertson recurve 46lbs@26"
-
I have any where from 45# to 70# my comfortable weights are between 50 and 60# teh 70# bow was a mistake and I don't shoot it often I like the 55-60 though
-
45#-55# AT 28" WORKS FOR ME
-
Favorite for most animals is around 55#. Enough weight for most hunting by not difficult to draw. For buffalo I would rather have closer to 70#. Nothing wrong with 45# for anything up to and including deer though.
Allan
-
48-54 at 28 When I don't target pannic!
-
mine is my Robertson Purist 75@28.
-
51.334# @ 28. (Just joking Don). My hunting bow this year is 51 @ 28 though.
-
54@30
-
Both of my go to bows are 56@28. I draw an even 28.
-
Both of my bows are 50@28. I would like to work up a few lbs but 50 is working very well for me right now.
-
Used to be 83#@29 until a friend made a offer that I couldn't refuse, now it's 63#@29 and that'll probably be about it since I'm getting older.
-
71ish @ 31ish shooting 950-1050 gr. GT Big Game 100's and 31% Ultra-EFOC. Fairly bad medicene at reception.
-
Man Richie,
That oughta pack a wallop!!!!! :scared:
-
65#- 72#. My primary bow is an old T/D with Brandon Stahl limbs, 67@28. I draw 29" for about 71#. I'll drop a few lbs. one of these days but all my ammo-and there is a whole lot of it- is with these weights in mind. I'm fifty-five now and I know if I drop 10# it'll be tougher to go back up than it would have been fifteen years ago. My arrows are 2317s, 29.5". Not to drag this out, but I believe about any thing, poundage-wise, can be effective as long as the shooter has the skill under pressure to make the shot and enough confidence in himself and his equipment to close the deal. Great trophies have been taken with forty-five pound bows (and less) as well as ninety pound bows. I'm afraid that the rule of thumb when I was young was "as much bow as you can comfortably and accurately shoot." I still think its a pretty good guideline, but in the end it's probably more psycholgical than not so far as the shooter is concerned. GY
-
45-55 @ 27.5"
-
Well.... 63#@31.5" but lately I've been experimenting with a more "traditional" draw. Then it would be 60#@29.5", and 57#@29.5" on my short bow.
-
I primarily hunt with a 58# Dale Dye (at my 27" draw length) and shoot carbons 11-12gr/#.
-
I've got 'em #55 to #65, though I shoot the #65 the best (and it's most comfortable to shoot). Got an #80 on the way, but it hasn't been determined yet whether it will be hunted with, or just end up an "exercise" bow. :archer:
-
45#-65# @ 28" warf and recurve. 2 sets of limbs each. Shoot both with release, peep and sights for hunting. Gimpy hand and accuracy issues driven lol
On order Sky TDX 19" with 70# Belcher limbs. Hope to make 80?# by 64th b.day in 20 months. New to recurves.
-
48# @ 28
Kohannah Fury Extreme
(also 50# Hatfield)
-
49-54# at my 27" draw length.
-
Jeez Richie, are you trying to shoot multiple deer at once? ;)
-
All of my bows are 50@28.
-
I like 50@28, but my draw is closer to 29.5.
-
My bows range from 47 to 57 pounds at 27 inches. The recurve I'm currently shooting most often is 48# @ 27".
-
Arrow4Christ,
Yea I have only been able to get three to line up at a time. That fourth one is always the hard-headed one.
No....I just really, really like the power and fortunately can pull that weight. However, I do realize it is not "needed" to kill game. It is amazing how well the 1000 grainers fly with the 31% UEFOC and really quiet.
-
52 and 55 at my draw
-
62 at 27
-
anything over 50 lbs is ok with me.
-
I generally like mine in the 50 to 55Lb. range, but I just got a habu Vyperkhan that is 46lbs. at my draw length and I shoot it very well
-
60# long bow for me.
-
If I add up my two shrews they are #112 @ 60"
-
All of my bows fall between 63# and 65# @ 28".
I draw 28.
My go to bow is a 56" PSA Autumn Oak 63# @ 28".
-
#45 and I hope to move closer to #40 soon, #45 more than does the job on deer and turkeys.
-
All hunting bows but one between 51-58# @ 30" that accounts for all but one Pronghorn that is my Elk getter that one is 61 at my 30".
DD
-
65# HH wesley special almost exclusively. Sometimes a Bamboo Longhunter at 78#
-
54#s at my 28.5" draw, all my bows are between 52-56#s at my draw. Shawn
-
65# GN fireball, it just feels perfect to me
-
50 on mine. All my Bears are 50's.

Danny,

Danny,
Where in Hades is George Holler??? I been all over KY but I missed this Holler.
