has anyone ever seen or have or used lake sturgeon skins to back a bow? I just recently heard about this and though tit might be a good idea since sturgeon spearing is coming up her ein a wisconsin in a few weeks. If anyone had pics of a sturgeon skin backed bow id love to see them thanx!

I don't have pics, but a friend of mine put them on a bow he made, and they were some of the best looking skins I have ever seen on a bow. They had some bumpy texture that felt kind of like aligator skin.

Ted at Raptor has some pics of one with White Sturgeon skin on them. They look great. I fish in the Columbia and I am presently planning to put Sturgeoun skins on a self bow I plan to make at a WAJAM that is coming up this summer.

I've seen it on self-bows. Quite a bit thicker than snakeskin. Rather rough texture. Unique look.

Seen a self bow by Bernie Swank (?). It was a beauty!

I saw some on a self bow and looked great. I liked it better than most snake skin.
Good lock with the spearing.
What part of Winnebago do you go on?

Bows of Wood photos: third frame over, forth bow from left is Sturgeon skin, but it is not Lake Sturgeon. http://bowsofwood.com/gallery.aspx
It makes a very durable and attractive backing. Awesome natural camouflage as well. There are suppliers out there offering it, I'm sure Pine Hollow could steer you in the right direction. I think most of the Sturgeon skins come out of Russia, not sure of the species of Sturgeon but they are darker and bumpier than our Lake Sturgeon typically.
Good luck,
Kris
