i plan on ordering two new morrison cheyennes.one for myself and one for michele.twin bows.pretty much just for shooting with hers and hunting and 3D with mine.i would like to know if the carbon and foam limbs are just a little better or a lot better than standard wood cores.what are the positives and negatives of it? like to know as i have never shot a bow with either........thanks......larry.

I had them on my Shawnee. I really liked them. Only sold them to Mike (leatherneck) because they were too long for my liking. Will get a shorter set for my riser if I keep it. Never tried his standard limbs. Better than my other bow though!

Larry, my Zipper limbs with foam cores really seem quicker and smoother then the standard limbs. I haven't shot my carbon and foam limbs enough to give an educated opinion on that combo.
-
I have owned both wood cores and foam cores. I would not own a Morrison without the foam ever again. Foam makes the bow that much more quiet. Bob says the carbon in the recurve limbs doesn't add much, but it adds speed to the longbow limbs. I just recently got a set of longbow limbs from Rusty1 with both in it and they are sweet. They shoot as fast as my recurve limbs. Quiet is my thing, not speed. But if it's there, I'll take it.

Mike- Glad you like them!!!
-
any problems with them at all?
-
Bob's carbon and foam limbs are FFFAASSST. But, The foam/ b.glass are smoother and only +- 3fps slower and $150 cheaper!! :biglaugh:
-
NONE Larry, none at all!!! I've had them in single digit weather and the Texas sun in the spring and they performed flawlessly.
Keep in mind that the Olympians have been using them for a loooooooooooooong time now.

i have a 55# @ 28 cheyenne i pull about 28 and a half.
what i like most about the carbon/foam is how Smooth, and Zero stacking its the same for start to anchor!
my girlfriend shoots a shawnee 45# @ 28 she pulls 26inch draw and she also has the carbon/foam limbs and her bows still shoots flat out to 25 yards i havent put them through a crono yet.
she used it for hunting this year and with a 550grain arrow got a pass through at 16 yards.
if your getting a morrison go for the carbon/foam!!!!! you'll like'um

so no issues of blowing up,delaminating etc? i am a bamboo fan, hard to beat bamboo imho.+- 3ft is not much...see this makes me wonder if its worth all the extra money for foam/carbon.guess its all in what i'll be using it for.
-
man this is tough...i want a wenge, bocote handle with wood lams front and back.now its a tossup wheather to go with the boo or foam for recurve or boo or carbon/foam for longbow limbs.... :help: :banghead:

Keep in mind, the foam is relatively cheap addition that I feel makes a BIG difference in noise. I haven't checked lately but I believe the foam is 35.00. Now when I was ordering my recurve limbs(about a year ago) Bob stated that the carbon on the recurve limbs only added +3fbs. The longbow limbs added more than 3+. Please double check this with Bob so I didn't get my numbers confused.

You might be able to get a wood veneer on the back of the foam core limbs to satisfy yourself aesthetically.Or under clear glass on the belly.I do like the bamboo limbs. They shoot great. The foam are super quiet and shoot very smoothly. They are only 20$ more than than the bamboo. So costs not an issue thier. The carbon/ foam recurve give you the benefits of foam and a little more speed. Its possible they could add to stability with thier added torsional stiffness in the event of a less than perfect release.I was impressed with the overall performance of the carbon/foam recurve limbs.Thier wicked
I got the carbon foam longbow limbs on my cheyenne now.I really like them alot.I had the foam and do personally like the foam with the carbon on the longbow limbs a bit more.
The good thing is no matter what combination you eventually decide for your limbs you can always get additional limbs at a later date.Or maybe even find a good used set later. It is easier to find the bamboo limbs second hand as the foam and carbon have not been around that long and the longbow limbs have only been out for less than a year as far as I know.
Ask Bob when in doubt to iron out the details.

My Morrison carbon/foam longbow shoots like it is 5# heavier and is smoooooth.
-
ok...i'll take the plunge and go for it.i'll do the foam recurve sandwitched between wood lams clear glass and skins on front.should be a shooter.i think....maybe...oyyyyyyyyyyy...lol...i really think it would be hard to beat all boo limbs though but i'll give it a whirl.what do you guys think about wenge, bocote wood combo on handle? to much contrast between woods?
-
I keep buying bows but nothing I have owned yet can match the performance of my Morrison Carbon/Foam Cheyenne Recurve limbs. They are dead quiet, smooth, and really really fast. I have another set on order right now "A" recurve carbon/foam limbs 50@27" with cotton mouth skins counting the days.

Larry,
Whether it is the Morrison limbs or the Shrew limbs, the foam is nicer by a margin in my opinion than the actionboo limbs. With the recurve limbs you are not going to see as much advantage to adding the carbon as in the longbow limbs, but if Cody (Steel) says the carbon makes his foam core recurve limbs significantly faster, believe him. I just don't have any of the Morrison foam/carbon recurve limbs on any of my bows. I won't order any more actionboo limbs from Morrison now that I have several sets of foam core recurve and foam/carbon longbow limbs that he has made. However, I will order more of the foam/carbon limbs.
The choice of limbs that you say you plan to order and the combination of riser woods sounds outstanding. Don't hesitate -- just do it!

you should sell nikes amar911...... :readit: :D :D ....i'm in like flynn boys....ordering tomorrow.
-
I may be the odd ball here...but I like the actionboo better. I have both foam/carbon & actionboo in Morrison Cheyenne & Shawnee. I also like the Shrew in actionboo. I also shoot selfbows, maybe that's why. Doc
-
I'm with you Doc. I think the Actionboo/glass limbs feel crisper on the release and on the draw.
-
As far performance using my three Cheyenne's, I don't notice that much of a difference between my actionboo over my foam. They both perform just as well, the only exception I found is the foam to be slightly louder.
-
I think the old carbon Bob used didn't add much FPS in his recurve limbs. The new carbon he uses does affect the Recurve limbs adding 3 or 4 FPS.I have had many sets of Cheyenne limbs and ILF limbs in Bamboo,Foam, and Carbon/Foam. To be honest they were all very nice and Bobs bamboo limbs I owned shot as fast as some of my carbon limb models from other bowyers. From the several sets of Cheyenne Recurve and longbow limbs I have owned I like the way the carbon/foam or just foam draw and shoot. To me they just feel smoother and shoot quieter/harder. My "A" Cheyenne recurve limbs are the best limbs I have ever owned performace wise super fast, super quiet, draw is smooth, and they put a arrow right where you look shot after shot. I ordered another twin set of "A" carbon/foam cheyenne limbs if you can't beat them get another set!
-
Larry,I think the combination you want in your riser is pretty nice,I like the black of Wenge with the changing browns of Bocote;but I would prefere Ebony since it adds more mass, expecially if you look for a shorter riser. So what are the specs on your new bow?Felix

Let us know what you decide. Good luck!

Larry,
Yes, I was thinking Nike when I wrote that. I'm like Cody on the limbs. I have more actionboo Morrison limbs than I do foam or foam/carbon limbs, so I am not just talking out of school. There is absolutely nothing wrong with actionboo limbs, and that is certainly true of the Morrisons. When Bob and I were hunting together he told me that he would not personally shoot anything other than his foam core limbs unless and until something better came along. I agree with him as to which of his limbs shoot better, but I respect the those who have a different opinion. I wish you were close to Oklahoma City and I would let you shoot my bows and see which you liked better.
Foam core bows, and especially those with carbon, can sometimes have a slightly louder, higher frequency noise, but not all of them do, and I have found the noise is mostly eliminated very easily with string silencers. I usually use catwhiskers. String silencers seem to work better in eliminating high frequency noise than low frequency noise, which I would expect, so that my foam core bows end up being very quiet. The Morrison foam core limbs are very quiet (just as quiet or more so than the actionboo limbs), although the absolute quietest, deadest bow I have ever shot is the Brackenbury Peerless prototype that I tested last year. But that had more to do with the limb design than the materials, as is often the case.
Wenge and bocote is going to look beautiful, especially if Bob has some nice pieces of it. And it will be plenty heavy, as most three piece designs are. Please post pictures when you get it. It will be a dream bow.
