Title: String Material
Post by: Chris Shelton on February 01, 2010, 10:15:00 AM
Hey guys I make my own flemish strings, but am fairly new at it, on my one recurve I like to use a fast flight string, but aint forkin out money for those big rolls of fast flight material.  Is there a string material similar to fast flight?  Right now all I have is b-50.

Thanks

Heh, " Cuz ",
Don't they offer the 1/4lb spools of 8125, D97, 450, etc, etc ? I think they have them in 3 River's catalog don't they ? If not there I know I have seen 1/4 lb spools somewhere ?

BCY offers 1/4# spools--you can buy it through different retailers or straight from BCY (www.bcyfibers.com).

Chris I find D97 the least expensive of the low stretch materials. And you can get it in 375' rolls,1/8# spools and 1/4# spools. The 375'ft rolls run around $12-13 and I have made 6-8 strings from 2 rolls. The 1/8# spools run $17-18 and you can get quite a few strings from a couple of them. They are a good buy for someone making some strings for themselves. The 1/4# spools usally run around $28-30.

Dynaflight '97 is the most similar to Fast Flight-both are 100% Dyneema.  I think Dynaflight is better than FF.

Lancaster Archery sells the small spools (1/8 lb)of 8125 and D-97 for around 27 bucks for the 8125 and 17 bucks for the D-97. If you are making strings just for yourself a couple of these will last a while.
