Title: Foam core limbs?
Post by: Zradix on February 02, 2010, 12:31:00 PM
I've searched here and there looking for the advantages and disadvantages of a foam core limb.
I can't really find anything other than heat resistance and a little less vibes. Is there more to it?? Thanks

Give  me a good OL' bamboo ,actionwood, maple core any day over the foam. Had it, tried it, didn't like it. I like the new advances such as carbon on the limbs but like the ol reliable cores better . The other cores just seem more forgiving. The foam cores are lighter and as smooth on the draw though.IMO

You have to shoot a bow with foam, then a bow without them to really feel the difference.  The foam cores are much much smoother to draw.

I have shot the foam core limbs and like them.  They seem to perform well.

I have had good results with foam and Foam/carbon limbs for both quietness and smoothness and good shooting qualities.I have only shot Morrisons though with these materials. The foam Morrison limb is said to be 4 ft per second faster than the boo so its slightly more effecient in his design

One thing that is good about foam to partially answer your question about durability is its gonna be more impervious to water and moisture. So I think it would be more durable if the limb was exposed to water, snow or high humidity. It wont swell if exposed to moisture.

Foam is also said to be more consistant in temperature extremes from very cold to very hot.

I do enjoy shooting mine.I can find nothing negative to say about how the foam limbs shoot.I do like the bamboo limbs as well I must say.Nothing wrong with them!
