How does a crow react to a blind?
Heck, I'll try most any kind of hunting, once.....and I've got a couple sacks full of crow dekes.
-
I haven't tried them with a bow yet and was just thinking yesterday that I want to do just that! I can get them to practically hover when they're coming in so as long as I'm accurate and they are committed it shouldn't be a problem.
GMMAT, I don't ever use a blind for crows. I like thick cover and short trees. For me they've always hugged the top of whatever is there and in fields I get a lot of sky birds. I like a hole in the canopy or a brushy meadow surrounded by trees.

ahh see thats your problem, trying to eat those nasty corn fed birds. if you want a good eating crow you gotta kill some of them fresh of the gutpile/roadkill. lol
i have never killed one with a bow but love hunting them. and imo they are less gamey, although tougher meated than a dove.

About 12 years ago, I left my back quiver hanging while I grabbed one arrow and my bow and went off the to the little boys room. While I was over the hill, I heard lots of crows. when I came back over the ridge there were a dozen or more crows taking turns beating up my quiver full of arrows. I missed with the arrow I had with me. It was the only shot I have ever taken at a crow. ok, I have read the Hill story about the blackbird, you eat them?

paven, that`s a pretty cool story. They probably thought it was a owl or a hawk. The crows pester the daylights out of them.

How you gonna' shoot flying crows out of a blind, son? :saywhat: :knothead: :bigsmyl:
Hiram Grogan wrote about hunting crows with the bow and arrow, in his book, "Modern Bowhunting", published in 1958. They used decoys...both crow and owl, and a mouth caller (it was before 1958), and they would wait for the scout to come in first. The scout would see the owl and crows and alert all the crows within shouting distance, and the shooting would begin. They never shot at the scout as he was the messenger.
Hiram hunting in Georgia and a few other S.E. states.

My true 1st bow kill was a crow. When I was a kid probably 9 or 10 I had one of those fiberglass bows that came in a kit with arrows and a target. My 1st victim was a crow that was perched on a branch which was hanging over a riverbank. Unfortunately the crow and the arrow both ended up in the river. Even though I couldn't swim much back then I waded in up to my waist with my blue jeans and tennis shoes on to claim my trophy and retrieve my arrow. I was too young to know that it was supposed to be hard to sneak up on a crow so I just did it!

If it don't taste good, it ain't worth huntin' ^^

who says you have to eat it?? it makes a perfect treat for the in-laws...crow stew

I shot a crow/raven once with a bb gun. I shot it while it was eating my chicken's food. Hit it good on the birds left side. The next day I let my dog out and she was limping bad on her left leg. No reason. I will not shoot a crow/raven again. COINCIDENCE? I do not know. The american indians revered the the crow as messengers of the dead.

My son has an e-caller we use for wolves. Has some crow calls on it. They go crazy for that. You'll have tons of them in the trees around you. There is a season on them here but so far we just like the racket they make and its fun to fool them.

I've eaten enough crow in life to spend valuable time hunting the birds.
