Title: Eye Candy from Rodney Wright
Post by: harvestmoon on March 11, 2010, 11:29:00 AM
Just got my new Stalker Recurve last Friday.  Monday, I am going to have my left hip replaced, and I had hoped that it would be ready when I came home from hospital.
Rodney surprised me, and had it ready early so I have been shooting it this week and planing for next Fall.
Shoots where I look, and is really quiet and plenty fast for me.
I wanted something to improve my ground game...plan to hunt from a chair and ghillie suit.
Rodney really helped me with the woods, hand fitted the riser, and made me a dandy little bow.

Pulled to 30" @ 55#...

Finished at 51# @ 28, and is smooth out to my 26.5" draw.  It measures 39" nock to nock.  Imagine that.

Really beautiful with the yew and the action wood.  Congrat!  Is it some kind of antler glue on to the side of the top ridge?

I had to share this, because at my age, this is the only eye candy, other than my beautiful Life Witness, that I can put my hands on.

Rodney does fantastic work and is a great guy to work with.  He's made 2 bows for me-a Firehawk and a Buffalo Stick (a great sort bow by thway, 50"), both are bamboo and a true joy to shoot-even put some meat in the freezer with them.

That is a really beautiful bow. The wood combinations and the finish is top shelf. Best of luck to you with your hip surgery. Nice to have that bow to look forward to when you get home and done with rehab.

These short bows from Rodney are surprising. I have a few reviews I did  with his bows on my site  www.peteward.com, (http://www.peteward.com,)   trad review pages.
 http://peteward.com/2009pages/test.buffalostick.html

 http://peteward.com/test.stalker.html
The Stalker and Buffalo Stick  are just great for tight shooting places.

With the Stalker you don't need to photo shop your trophy pictures to make the animal look big.  :)
Shanons moose pictures with the Stalker from the review.

Good luck on your hip surgery.I have had two on the same side. The on first one the cup came off the pelvis after 6mo.s had to have done over was a defective part and was taken off the market! The second one I recieved was screwed to the bone and is better than orignal equip.I had missed one archery season on the first hip but after the experience Ihad I was not going to miss another and I hunted shortly after the second and was fortunate to arrow a nice 8ptr from the ground! That made up for the lost season. The most important thing is the rehab. I did both rehabs dilligently but not to over do it.My current hip is16 mo.s old and is to the point that sometimes forget I have an artificial hip.The first hip I recieved was in 2006 sept. the second hip I received oct.2008.The first hip I had suffered for months and had to chang dr.s second doc. said I needed to have it replaced and I thanked him for it. I had suffered long enough! Now am good to go shot two nice bucks from my climbing stand this year! Well I came here to look at the new bow you got and then got side tracked by the whole hip thing. I would like to Wish You a speedy recovery and I know it will be so ! Any way can that bow be shot by someone with a 29.5 in draw, finger pinch?

Well well, so it looks like Rodney came up with another beauty, you should see what he did with some birds eye maple on a Firehawk bow.Now that was sweet! Those of you that were wondering if the Stalker had a lot of pinch, well i tried one and have to say it is very forgiving. But like anything you need to get to know it.

Hey Rodney,

Is the brace height supposed to be the same on a Stalker that's a few years old?

I have one that's about 4 yrs. old and use a brace height of about 8".  Should it be 9 1/2-10" ?

Thanks for any help, love your bows....Keith

Hi Joekeith.

If she is shooting fine for you leave it as is.
Just measured mine and it is at 9'' So I guess I should of wrote 9 to 10 ''.That is where I suggest my customers Start. And can adjust as to where you feel it performs best for you and your shooting style.

Thank You.
Rodney.
