Title: how to tell a cock feather on a jig?
Post by: hydrasport205 on March 25, 2010, 01:17:00 PM
this may be a really stupid question but here goes. I know what a cock feather is from shooting compound for years..  but since i started fletching my own arrows with a blitzenburger jig how do I tell which is the cock feather??

With three fletch you normally make one a different color.  The other method is to use a nock with an indexing bump - line - mark that you can feel under your finger tip.

I went to shooting 4 fletch and quite worrying about cock feathers entirely.

The bitz jig has a flat side that you can start with. I always put that up and line the indexing mark on my nock up with it.

I hold the arrow like it would be on the string and mark it with a pencil. So when I come to it in the jig, I know it's the cock feather that gets put on.

Correct. The Blitz jig has the set screws and flat spot where the cock feather goes.
