Hey all, just wanted to post a picture of our new glue-on Talon small game heads. They are 150 grains, and we had them made with an extra amount of space in the tip so that extra weights could be added in the form of lead fishing weights. The width of the hole is 13/64ths of an inch. I put one on a wood shaft today that I tapered for 3/4 of an inch and was able to add just over 30 grains to the head. We built them this way so you could play around with weights without having to buy different heads. Feedback on how that system works would be greatly appreciated. They are just as tough as the original screw-in head. Here's a pic.

As a way of saying thanks to all of the Tradgang members who've been so good to me over the past seven years I'd like to offer these heads, and the screw-in models as well, to Tradgang members on a buy two, get one free basis through April 15th.
The way to do this will be simply order a two-pack on our website and then post your member number in the shipping instructions and I'll send you three instead of two.
Hope they work out well for you all. Thanks for looking.

Great looking head!
Great deal!
Thanks!!!

Wish there was a smal game season open to put these to good use.
-
Stan,
It looks like you were up late last night playing with them. :biglaugh:

With a 125 steel adapter, do you think there is still enough space to add 25 more grains of lead?
As a tip, on other heads where I had the space, I've used solder quite a bit because it doesn't upset the balance like lead shot will if you don't get it in there just right.
-
You'll be getting my order! Those are some nice looking heads!

Jeff, yes I was, and it was raining hard yesterday. But, Oregonians don't mind playing in the rain. Everything, truly, is better than I expected, can't thank you enough.

Hi JC, thanks for the tip. I had the heads made this way with you in mind. I do believe you will be able to get 25 grains of additional weight in the tip. If you can't let me know and I'll make things right.

I've been waiting for these babies!

I'll be placing an order.

Thanks for the offer! Sweet!
-
Hey all, was asked in a PM if you could buy a three-pack and have a fourth head thrown in as well. Heck yeah, don't know why I didn't think of that.
-
I want to clarify something. Do you mean that if I order the 2pack of 150 grain glue on, you include a 3rd head? Or if I order 2 2-packs of the 2 heads you include a 3rd 2-pack?
Thank you!
God bless,Mudd
-
Hi Mudd, love the avatar! What I meant was whatever pack you order, I'll add another head. I don't want to have people buying more heads than they want just to get a deal, just want to say thanks to people who do purchase some heads.
-
Thank you for the quick response. As soon as payday gets here I'll be placing a 2 pack order for glue on tips.
Again Thank you!
God bless,Mudd

Stan,
I just ordered some screw-in heads. Thanks for the deal. I'm very anxious to try them out. I've been using the rubber heads with spikes on the desert jackrabbits and they aren't working for me. A few weeks ago I hit one center-of-body and it ran off with my arrow! I will try for head shots from now on.
Thanks again,
Joe
-
Stan, It looks like you got a real mean looking small game head there... I'm sure they will really do a job... Are they ment for stump shooting.. And do they keep the arrow from snaking under grass like judos do??
-
Hey Joe, they definitely work on jackrabbits :D
Here's a pic of my buddy's son that went rabbit hunting with me to field test them.
Hi Thomas, these were designed with stumping in mind. They are tough as nails and built with really thick trailing edges. This pyramid shape and concave tip help to limit penetration in stumps and trees and makes for easy arrow removal.
As far as keeping an arrow from snaking under grass? Not like a judo. I didn't want "arms" that would break off or snag up in brush and tall grass before my arrow got to the target. On the other hand I didn't want it to bury under grass either and not be found. What I came up with is the concave design that you see. What this typically does for me is plow through grass and dirt, allowing me to find the arrow if not flipping it. Another buddy and I shot all day in his pasture when we were testing these and didn't lose an arrow. He is hard on starlings :D
Thanks for the questions, would love to hear back from some of you that have the head and have shot it in grass.

Stan, got the glue-on's to 300gr. I used a short 75 gr steel adapter (they are hollow), filled with solder to flush, Talon filled with remainder of solder. Just barely fits, but it does. The long 125 and 100gr adapters wouldn't allow enough solder to make weight. JB welded them together this morning before work and will hopefully get to knock one off a couple of stumps right before dark when I get home. I really like ability to sharpen the flats...makes a wicked little mini broadhead when ran across a flat stone a few times
For those who have never used solder to help make a heavier head, it works pretty good if you get the lead/low temp stuff you can still find in electronic stores. Put your adapter and head on a scale together, add hunks of solder to the scale until you reach the desired weight, go to melting and see if it will all fit together. Careful not to overheat the head or you'll have to work to re-temper, hence the low temp solder. using the various aluminum and steel inserts, both hollow and solid, really gives you a lot more options for getting the exact weight you want.
-
Just glued mine up to make a couple 175gr for one set-up and a couple 250gr. for another set-up. Can't wait to give them a try!
-
JC, thanks for the tip on the low temp solder. I'm really glad that you were able to get to 300 grains. I was hoping the extra room in the tip would allow for some variation in weight to give hunters options. I sharpen all of my Talons just a bit before I hunt with them. I think it helps quite a bit.
Kenneth, looking forward to results!

Dang, missed the April 15 band wagon.
The big question I have is will they get swallowed up by moss and muskeg like we have in Alaska?!
