Title: Arrow help
Post by: huntnut on May 15, 2010, 04:39:00 PM
My son is shooting a Bear Kodiak Hunter 45#@28 he is pulling around 35-37#@25" my scale isnt real accurate. He wants to shoot POC. I'm getting him some 1816 and 1916 xx75 too, but I'm not sure what spine woods to order. I'm guessing 40-45# spine he well be useing 150gr heads. Right now he is shooting full length 2016 with 150gr and 200gr tips, still over spined but thats all we have right now.

with that short of a draw length and 150 gr heads, 40-45 or 45-50s will be right there.  I'd suggest sitka spruce rather than POC due to the lower quality POC available these days.

At that draw length, 35-40# would probably be better.  40-45# would probably also be OK, but 45-50 will be a bit stiff.  Folks remember the rule of thumb to add 5# for every inch of draw over 28 inches.  The corollary is to subtract about 5# for every inch under 28 inches of draw length.

I'll second the 35-40# shafts.I think 40-45 would be a little stiff.

Possibe?
FF string? +5
150gr might +5
If you leave the shaft longer and allow him to grow into it,
40-45 sounds close.

Huntnut, I have several dozen 35-40# at 29" in yellow poplar, much tougher than the softwoods. You can PM me if you're interested. They are 5/16 diameter.

I would take a serious look at Surewood shafts.  They are very straight grained and come in the spines your looking for.
