Title: String making ?
Post by: Sticks2117 on May 27, 2010, 07:23:00 PM
I have made quite a few strings with B-50 but i have never made a string with D-97. I bought D-97 string material but I have serving material for D-50 I am wondering if I can use it or do i have to by a different kind of serving? Thank for your help

Sure you can use it,you can use any serving on strings whether they are made with dacron or D97 or any other modern string material.Depending on how many strands you plan to use,you can get other serving materials in larger diameters to fit nocks better. Most modern string materials you don't need as many strands as dacron,so you may need larger diameter servings.

I use Halo serving for all my strings. i don't know what difference it would make unless it is the stuff that feels like mono filament fishing line.

Depending on how many strands you're going to be using you might have to serve them with larger serving on the D-97 compared to Dacron.

With 14 strands of Dacron for good nock fit with my X-nocks I use .019 Halo.  With 14 strands of D-97 I'm going to use either .021 Halo or .024 halo.  10 strand D-97’s gets .030 Halo.  I don’t build many Dacron strings under 14 strands.

With 16 strands of Dacron I'm using either .017 Halo or .018 Braided 62XS.

Basically the Darcon string is larger and will need smaller serving.
