Last Saturday was my wife's birthday and in the afternoon we decided to take a drive in the country. Below are some of the "sights" that we encountered along the way. Some of the pictures are better than the others due to both light available and the amount of zoom that was utilized.
I hope you enjoy a small trip in the wonderful state of West Virginia.

Beautiful! Some day I'll make it over east and see some of that great country. Thanks for sharing and taking us on a scenic drive. :clapper:

Healthy looking deer Don. Looks like a great place. Is there much public land to hunt in West Virginia? How is the hunting? We rarely see Tanagers here so it is nice to see pics of them.
-
Winterhawk where did you take these pics? I was born and raised in Parkersburg.
-
Thanks for sharing, excellent take care and enjoy Jerry.

Mike,
There are several pieces of public land to hunt, but as are most places......you have to be careful and not leave things out that you want to keep. The hunting here is good.......but it seems to me that the DNR manages the deer herd for "quantity" instead of "quality". That being said, if you ever want to come down and hunt for a few days, I have access to a couple pieces of private land that we can "explore".
texas woody,
All of these pictures were taken in either Wood or Wirt county. I spent my first 17 years of life living in a little place called Slate. The pictures were either taken on Slate Creek Road in Wood County.......or Tuckers Creek Road in Wirt County.
Most of the old Westvaco land here is now "leased" up by hunting clubs, and it is very hard to have any access to it without being a member of the club. I don't belong to any of them but still have one relative that has a pretty good sized chunk of land here in WV. It doesn't get any pressure in bow season, but gun season is another story all together.
All that being said........West "by God" Virginia truly is a beautiful state and I'm proud to call myself a West Virginian.

Thanks for the compliments guys.
elkken,
The camera is a Panasonic FZ-30, which was discontinued less than a year after it came out. I kinda figured that for the price it cost that Panasonic figured that a person wouldn't have to purchase another camera for so long that they figured they better get it off the market. It really takes a pretty nice picture and has 12x optical and image stabilization.
Terry,
Your more than welcome to wander by anytime. There is always room for another trad-ganger.

Winterhawk, love all the animal photos, but that old homestead pic with the barb wire fence trailing off, and the hills in the background is just about perfect to look at and think about John Denver singing "Almost Heaven, West Virginia ..." thanks for posting, and Happy Birthday to Mrs. "Winterhawk1960" :wavey:

Nice pic of the birds. I didn't know that female scarlet's were yellow. I've only seen one male in CT, many years ago.

Hey Don,
Some of those areas look a little familiar! I still do most of my hunting at Slate Creek and Tucker Creek.
