Title: Bear Razor Heads/Cedar Arrow Question?

My lovely spousel unit picked these up as a gift for me about 5yrs ago. I've been sitting on them trying to decide what to do with them. Well, last night I bought a 71' Kodiak Hunter 60", 50# @ 28". I will pull it about 53# @ my 29" draw. I would like to have these mounted on some cedar arrows but, according to my grain scale they are about 120gr w/the bleeder blades. That seems a might light to me. What spine and length should my arrow be to get a heavy enough shaft for 53#'s?

you can use woody weights to increase your front end weight.

53 lb + 10 for center cut + 10 for 2" over 28" = 73 lb static spine.  Even with a light cedar, you will have plenty of weight for 53 lbs.  The Razorheads are kinda lightweight heads, esp today, but they have proven themselves for many years and are just as effective as ever.  Enjoy the visit with history.

Rick, Surewood shafts are my favorite wood shafts. Will they work well with these heads?

I agree with Rick, you could maybe get by with a 65-70# spine, but the 70-75 might be a safer bet. The Surewoods will work fine in my opinion. Doug Fir is my favorite wood shaft.

Actually, Fir would be my choice, too.  You had mentioned cedar and it is a very "traditional" Bear Razorhead arrow wood.  I might even have some good cedar in that range hanging around.  If you wanted a bit more weight up front, you could run some lead up the nose of the shaft.

POC has been serving archers very well for many years and is a great arrow wood.  It is just hard to fine nice POC shafts anymore.  IMO tho, fir shoots nicer.

I shoot the Bear Razorhead, without the insert, on a 29" cedar shaft. My total arrow weight is approximately 600 grains. I have a 27 and 3/4" draw and my bows weigh in between 53 to 57@28 depending on which bow I use. This set-up has worked well for me on deer size game.If you can't make them work, I'll be glad to take them off your hands. Good luck.  :archer2:

Rick will take good care of you.  If you want more weight up front, this would be a good job for the Internal Point Jig 3Rivers sells.  The Woody Weights are too long for most heads that use bleeders.
