I've done the searches and looked, but I'd like to see pics specifically of arrows fletched with natural turkey feathers -- I'm looking for ideas, for cresting/wrap color, etc.
Show me what you got. Thanks all!

What are you guys using to dye them?
-
Tracy, those came out very nice!
I don't know what Ron uses, but I just used Rit Dye and vinegar.

Very nice
What is the advantage with footed arrows?

Footings add a weight to the front, but, primarily, they allow you to use a much more durable wood behind the point. They also allow you to extend the length of an arrow. I have to use full length woodies, and one break off behind the point leaves an arrow too short for me. Footings allow me to extend back to what I need. They look pretty cool, too.

Mine aren't all that pretty, but I like 'em.

here's a pic. of argueably the finest wood arrows ever made by Mr. Don Stokes..Superceders...barrel taper Mississippi poplar shafts......i made these up using feathers from 5 diferent species of turkeys my friends and i have killed with their bows......Vintage Archery ....can you spot the Oceolas? how about a Goulds?

These are great fellas!!!!!

Joey, I know the Oceolas are darker (although I've taken a couple of Easterns that were darker than normal), but I have no idea what a Goulds would look like. The second and third ones from the bottom have feathers that are dark and spotty looking rather than striped- are those the Goulds?
You do a fine job on the cresting. I got stuck on Sharpie pens, but I just can't get the fine lines and dense color saturation with them. They're so easy, though. I'm a sucker for easy.
Thanks for the good words.

4 and 8 are Goulds..wider white bands with black streaks...Floridians you nailed
I crest with AutoPaint testers ( 100 different colors)...thin with acetone.....LOVE using it......
What good words? just telling the truth..... :)

I'll post mine up once I finally get them finished. I believe I'm going with Rob's technique and doing 4 fletch with 4" banana cuts. -- figure I'll get more fletching that way out of my feathers.

I don't mean to hijack the thread or anything, but I was just wondering where you guys are getting all these natural feathers/fletching? I would love to do some natural fletched arrows, but I have no idea where to find a supplier.

My hunting partners and I shoot our own each year. I use the left wings they use the right. We split and grind our fletch. Also we put the word out at our local archery club, we get a lot of wings this way. Most folks just toss the wings after killing a turkey, or goose.
-
Stingray, it's generally illegal to sell parts of game animals/birds, so most folks have to kill a bird of their own, or rely on friends who will give them the wings from birds they shot.
Fletching arrows with feathers from birds you have killed is good juju!
Onestringer, those arrows are just too pretty to shoot! Fantastic work.

If you put the word out and do folk a few favors they will save wings for you. This year I collected 64 wings, a huge bag of primaries from another guy and 8 fans to trade with David Mitchell.
