Gotta give thanks to Chris Surtees for putting a smile big as Texas on my daughter face yesterday. He sent her this little Bear recurve, which I kept a secret. A couple weeks ago, she told me she wanted a bow that makes a loud sound when it hits the target like dad's, LOL. The little all fiberglass bow she has wasn't much stronger than a tight rubberband, so the seed was planted to be looking. We were having a garage sale Sat morning when the mail lady pulls up with a long box addressed to her. She grabs it like it's gonna sprout legs and run off asking what is it, who's it from a couple dozen times. I grabbed the camera to catch her opening it up. Well, the pics speak for themselves. Of course, every kid in the neighborhood has seen and held it by now. I owe you at least one Chris for producing a special memory for her !! THANKS

Thanks, Froggy - that was only Lois' second lesson (just befor ATAR, last month) - then she couldn't shoot at ATAR because her shoulder (old injury) was giving her fits - how I would love it if she would try again later, or had started as young as your precious one(s).

That's nice - I like it too, and I hope she will continue to. I always liked Tadpoles (and frogs). I grew up out in the country and spent more time with them than I did with people, most of the time - :archer:

As a Dad of three young girls I can feel your joy in her smile and pride in seeing that she obviously thinks enough of you to want to follow your lead. Nice work.
-
NBK,
I totally agree... and pride is a understatement.... Thanks
-
The smile in the pic where she is holding the bow unstrung and looking at it is priceless. It is amazing how a child can make your day with a smile like that.
Dax
-
That's awesome brother. It don't get no better that that. Keep her smiling.
Charlie
-
Oh brother.... now she's wanting to camo it.... good stuff !!
-
Oh come on dad!!! It's no biggie...lol
There may be a learning opportunity here!!
Wally World carries several different colors that make for great camo.
I once camo'ed an entire small truck for about 10 bucks that way.
God bless,Mudd
PS: I'd do whatever it took to keep that smile!..lol
-
Priceless!!! Made my day too!!! Better get her a bunch of arrows. Thanks for sharing.. You brought a lot of joy to many of us.
-
Mudd,
No biggie for sure... looking forward to it. She wants it Pink and White camo !!
-
The look on that child's face is priceless! BZ, Cris.

Found this thread awhile ago. Brought some good memories of that day back that Chris Surtees produced for my daughter, so sad his life was tragically taken way too soon. We actually shot out back this afternoon along with two neighborhood friends of hers that we have gotten hooked on Archery. She is still shooting the little Bear even though it is now a cool Pink camo....

He was a great loss to the world. Never got to meet him but I got some things that were his from his dad Larry who I have been fortunate to meet and hunt with. Glad that his memory lives on in your household. :campfire:
-
I only got to meet and hunt with Chris once and he left a wonderful impression on me.
I still wear a pair of his sumglasses daily.
I hunt with one of his bh's every time I'm out. One of his BH's were auctioned off after I killed 3 turkey's and 3 deer with it.
The one I'm using now has taken 3 turkey's, one deer, and one hog.
I also use one of his headlamps whenever I'm hunting and it's dark. Also use one of his Lone Wolf climbers....as a matter of fact I used all those items for this evenings hunt....I sure was looking forward to hunting with him a lot more.
I still try as much as I possibly can to take him to the woods....
-
Other than the bow, I have a Doug Campbell knife I recieved from his Dad after his passing of Chris's, also a arrow that I won on the St Jude auction. Sadly I never was able to shake his hand, but feel as I had a friend in him from the few times we talked. His dad
Larry made me a armguard from a Alligator he and Chris had gotten. It will be one of the treasured things in years to come that will be handed to my son along with the meaning of it.

Chris was a great friend and human! I miss him everyday. I've gotten several things to remember him by and cherish them very much.
I am also lucky enough to count his dad, Larry, and his family, kelsey, Christopher and Justin, as my dear friends.

Hey. Do you think she's excited! Very cool. You know what else is cool? That fourtrax from the 80's in the back ground. Not only do you not see those any more but wow that's in feat condition!
-
Matty,
Good call on the Fourtrax. 87' model I bought new. In excellent condition, only thing I have had to replace is the battery. Still has the original tires on it.

What a poignant thread.
-
Thanks for brining up the good memories for me to enjoy again.
Chris was definitely a Good one, I carry a quiver of his to the woods with me on all my hunts to remmeber the Man who was eager to give more than he received.
-
Curt, Jag and Charlie,
I am sure he is looking down thinking its pretty dang cool that folks are using his stuff honoring him. That's got to be a great feeling if possible to know that's a big part of his legacy still going strong. I pray often his kids are well and stable in their lives.
