Title: problem with new string on bow

I have an either 56"or 58' mosshorn longbow that I replaced the string on yesterday.  I matched the old string with the new one to make sure it was the correct length.  I put the new string on and shot it a couple of times then the string came off.  What would cause that?

Possibly a twisted limb. String may not have been seated in nock.

Did it come off during your draw or after you released the string?  If the string is the correct length and your shooting the same brace height as the old string I'm thinking overly large string loops for your bow's tips maybe.  Others wiser than me will chime in I'm sure.  Good luck!

normaly would indicate to large loops.

Length of string is not the problem-you will adjust that to get the proper brace anyway. If the string was not seated during stringing that could be the cause. Loop size can be a problem-although not usually. I think twisted limb is the first thing to examine. String it up and sight down the belly of the bow along the string and see what the tips are doing. Examine the string loop fit in the string nocks too. Let us know..........................

Sounds like the loops were to large.

i dont know how long you have been messing with trad bows but the first one i bought i let a guy string it for me and he did not use a stringer and twisted the limb i didnt even know till i pulled it back i doubt that does anything for you but if nothing else it gets you back to the top

I had a similiar situation some years ago, the new string had too large of loops, they were almost recurve size.  I remember thinking when I got the string that they looked too large and stringing my bow and shooting it confirmed my suspicions.  Eric.

In my opinion limb twist would have to be pretty severe to throw a string and would be clearly noticable.A string not seated properly or shallow string groves are my guess.

I have been out of pocket the past couple of weeks, but it does appear that the loops were to big.  I compared the old string with the new, and saw quite a bit of differance.
