Depending upon what finish is on the bow, acetone, denatured alcohol, Goof-Off. Always test to make sure the finish isn't adversly affected.
If it's bare wood, sandpaper.

I found some stuff that works real good and it's called GOOF OFF and it's made by the same people that make GOO Gone I believe.I use it to remove tape residue on old bows and it says on the can will take off pen, lipstick, grease, crayon and marker.I found it at True Value Hardware.($4.99)
Hope this helps.

You may be in trouble....

The longer it's on, the more it penetrates below the surface and nothing will take it off completely.

Simple Green will take it right off most surfaces like laminate desk tops if it's fresh.  Goof-off works better on older stuff but the best things I've used are two solvents from my last job that were totally different but both worked.  The first was called Delimoline (De Lime Oh Lean) and it smells like citrus.  Works fantastic on old glue too.  The other was an acetone based solvent called "make up ink" that was used in industrial ink jet printers and it worked better than the delimoline but might damage the finish on some bows.

I realize that last paragraph likely won't help but I figured maybe you know someone who works in a factory as an operator or mechanic.   They've usually got all the good stuff available.

Gun scrubber. the ingredient is called 1:1:1 or trychlorethelyne. I doubt if I spelled that right. but it will remove marker ASAP.

The product Earl Jeff notes is also available in the auto parts store as brake cleaner. Quite a bit less expensive there. Good stuff, I've put quite a few cans through and over various firearms.

4dogs, be careful what you put on the bow. It might remove the finish. I have a friend who wanted to remove Pete Shepley's name from a signature bow he had when he shot wheels. He put the bow in the bathtub and poured on a product that had 1.1.1. Trichloroethane in it. It removed Pete's name alright. It also removed all the finish down to the fiberglass. It also removed all the finish on the tub where it touched. Gary

Words to live by, Gary.
Can you imagine him trying to explain that to his wife, or the bow manufacturer's warranty department?

Thank you guys for all of the ideas, think I will start with the mildest and work my way up and see what happens...wonder what a light sanding or steel wool would do. Thanks again

I used plain old rubbing alcohol to remove old magic marker off a bow once.  Worked really well and didn't seem to harm the finish.

Try a wet wipe like for kids.  I've used those things and they will take about anything off.  Plus they are mild enough I don't think they would harm the finish.

Anything with acetone in it will probably go through any bow finish.  Try calling the toll free number of the marker manufacturer.

Call the bowyer and find out what kind of finish he uses.  The Fullerplast I use is impervious to solvents, including acetone and lacquer thinner.  You sure the marker is not under the finish?  It normally is.
