Title: The bucks are chasing in South Florida
Post by: swampdrummer on August 06, 2010, 09:36:00 PM
Or at least in my little patch of woods!  :D
I haven't seen the first deer hair since I killed the little doe first thing last Saturday morning.
Last night I saw two bucks within a mile of my house driving home. This evening I saw two more from my tree stand and both of them were hot on does... One of them was a monster.
Think  its time for me to climb up in the stand and stay there from dark to dark.

Killed a doe last evening and passed a small 8 pt this morning- lots of activity here too! I think mosquito's may be rutting too!  Still in a tree - whoda thunk this technology.

That's what I was thinking.  They rut around January in Alabama so I figured Florida would be about the same time or later.

Well, my all day sit was cut short at 8:30. Couldn't stand all the does running around underneath me!  :D

Check out the Florida Fish and Game site- they have a map that shows peak rut in all areas of FL.  It really is quite diverse- interesting.

arrow30, they are rutting.
This year Florida FWC changed the season dates and zones to more closely coincide with the rut in each different zone in the state.
I'm a couple of hours north of swampdrummer, and one of my buddies watched a buck chasing a doe just last evening.

Thanks guys. Its been a good season so far! I think a week into last season I had missed 2 or 3 times already! Daily practice and chasing pigs all summer has paid off I think.

No worries Hal. I'm slowing down. Going to wait on horns now. I've got one doe out of two seperate groups that tend to stay pretty much on my property.

Think I can relax enough to come up to Ocala next weekend.   :p  Going to be hotter than blazes but I think it'll still be a good time!
