I missed the boat on Morrisons close out metal risers. But it got me thinking how versatile the ILF system is. I want to be able to switch things up to try different set ups etc.. I'd also like to have a 52 - 54 inch bow for hunting from a blind.
I know of a few like Das, Hoyt target bows, Tradtech, Morrison. Who else am I missing and what do you guys use?

I am interested in seeing this one answered.
I don't know a thing about ILF's even though I now own one.
I haven't gotten the nerve to play with it yet as far as adjusting or even breaking it down.
Maybe someday when I have someone around to hold my hand..lol

PS: I keep wondering which high dollar ILF riser couldn't take the weather on Steve O's Alaskan bear hunt. ?????? I hate it that equipment failure ruined a hunt.

I myself have just gotten on the ILF bandwagon and from what I've seen there is more target style ILF risers out there than hunting. If you look on Lancaster Archery site you will see alot of the target styles. Along with the ones you mentioned there is also W&W,Spigarelli and a couple of others in ,maganesium,aluminum and carbon. All depends on how much you want to spend and the size your looking for. For hunting the Tradtech risers come in both aluminum and wood and make some good looking bows.

Can someone explain how I will know a target riser from a hunting riser?
Is my Win riser 25" or 23" a hunter or target model?

BTW: my riser is black metal and my limbs are Dryad ???(can't remember) 45@28 that actually pulls 41# on my riser.

If you take it hunting it is a hunting riser,if you shoot paper with it, it is a target riser. Just kidding you know. My Volvo 240 dl never knew it wasn't a truck the way I loaded it up.

What I've seen most hunting risers are shorter(14"-19") but you can use any size you want to hunt with. Big difference will be the overall length of the finished bow. The riser length and limb length determine the overall length. Also the shorter the riser the higher the finished poundage will be at 28". All ILF limbs are weighted at a 25" riser length so the shorter the riser the higher the poundage. From what I have been reading it is about one pound per inch you add to the bow for every inch deducted from the 25" riser length to get the new weight for the bow. If I'm wrong someone will correct me who knows better.

Maybe not "all" ilf limbs.I think that the Trad Tech limbs are scaled off of a 17" riser.

Ok here is what I ment. A set of ILF limbs say mediums are 40#@28" and make a 66" bow on a 25" riser. Put those same limbs on a 15" riser and now you have roughly a 50#@28" bow that is roughly 58-60" in length. Hope I did that correct.

Monkey you are probably correct. I am new to this myself and don't know all the products out there yet. For the most part your target style ILF limbs like Hoyt,W@W,Samick and so forth are all listed on 25" risers. I have a set of Samick Extreme Carbons and these are based on a 25" riser.

If these I have are measured off of a 25" riser they missed their mark by 4 lbs. Marked 45@28 but actually weigh out at 41 lbs.
I would like to find a set I can afford that would get me nearer to 46-48@28.

Oops the bow in the senario above would have been 68" with medium limbs on a 25" riser(this can be confusing).

Well Mudd it also depends if there the short,medium or long limbs. Like I said above this can get confusing on these limb/riser set-ups. Mine are mediums and since I am waiting on the riser to get here I'm still not sure what they will end at till I get them on and actually measure them and weigh them.

Dryad, Sky, Borders, Win&Win, Samick target, KAP, Black Swan all have riser and limbs.

Ok I have been looking at the Tradtech stuff and it looks like the limbs are made by Samick for them. They look the same except for color as the Samick target limbs and I think what Tradtech has done is just done the math for you based on a 17" riser. Example is the Tradtech BF Carbon Extreme limbs which look identical to the Samick BF Carbon Extreme target limbs.

By the way, most ILF target bows are recurve limbs. So for longbow shooters, the selections are a lot less.

One thing to beware of when using ILF limbs that were built for a 25" riser is using them on too short of a riser. They say you should only draw a set no more than 10# over the stated weight based on a 25" riser. If you put a set on say a 13" riser, and draw it to 29" and have it set at max re-load, you are just asking for an explosion.
The bowyers who are making the short risers, are also making limbs specifically for those risers.

I have read this also and would use no shorter than a 19" riser for the limbs I have. I opted for a 23" becasue I'm not hunting with this bow(have plenty others for that)but also didn't want a 68 or 70" recurve so got the 23" to make it 66" max. I'm guessing but my poundage should be about 2lbs heavier than what they came as on a 25" and add another 5lbs for my 30" draw and now your at 7lbs over. I wont know for sure till the riser get's here. I can still hunt with this length if I wanted to but really don't need to since I have so many other bows for hunting.

We make ILF wood risers 13,15,17,19 and custom over the 19". We are also working on a new 13" and maybe a 15" metal, a redesign with one model for 26" and under that does preform better for short draw hunters.One for longer draws also.

I have a 13" Morrison riser with a set of greatree long limbs.I've shot it about every day for the last 4 or 5 months with no problem.I think the limb angle is the key to makeing this set up work.I know at least one bowyer whos makeing plus 12# hunting risers with his limb angle set up. You may want to steer clear of that set up with higher poundage limbs.If your wanting to try out the ILF thing you should give Bob Morrison a call and pick his brain a little.Thanks,Jim Preece

I took the plunge and bought a Dalaa from 3 Rivers. It's the 17" riser with 45#, 60" limbs. I'm very impressed with this setup.
I'm still a little unsure as to which limbs make what weight but I think the 1# per inch riser length stated above is right. I think I'll just stick to the Dalaa limbs for now until I know more about it.
It came on Friday and I shot my best 3D score to date with it Sunday. I never thought I would like metal but I was wrong. She's a sweet shooter.

The rule of thumb with the Dalaa or TradTech Titan risers is to add 7# to the stated weight for a 25" riser. For example: if you want to shoot Winex limbs that will pull 55# @ 28" on a Dalaa, buy 48# limbs.

Sorry for the confusion, But I like to play with designs, materials and do like a real custom riser, wood or metal. Metal being the only bullet proof material I know of. I personally have 4 metal risers I rework to get what I want in them and 2-4 wood risers I do the same with. I sell some of the wood riser probably not the metal with only 4 of these in existance.

What about pulling 55# on the 48# limbs? Is this a concern?

Well Bob,keep making new ones and I quess I'll never have a savings account anymore.I am so glad that A.S.introduced the ILF to me and that I bought one from Morrison.Best thing I ever did,it is a blessing that Bob looks out for us with short draws LOL.I now have something that is near perfect for my 25 " draw.Thanks again Bob

I have a set of Sky carbon/foam longbow limbs that I have been shooting on a Sky ilf 17" riser,making a 62" bow, very impressed with this rig. cheers Pete.

I'm still confused Bob. So are you going to be selling a new metal ILF riser, or are you just making them for yourself? It sounded in your first post like you were designing a new one for sale.

I do not know who was first, maybe Hoyt, but they have been around for years.

If the market gets better and enough people want them ( I have to buy 15 at a time) why not??

Bob, If the price was similar to the ones you just sold I'd jump on the list for a 13. Keep me in mind if you decide to do a run of them.
