Title: B55 Flemish for recurve
Post by: Bud B. on September 18, 2010, 09:20:00 AM
Just got in some B55 and made my first two strings. First one was too long. Made it to the AMO layout, but twisting it too much due to stretch I had to go one size down on the second string due to  alot of stretch.

Served the center only.

I used 12 strands for a #50lb bow. The string is settling in nicely and I'm glad I dropped to the 52AMO setting. Made my jig from plans on TG here.

Any advice for a flemish making newbie? My second string is better than the first. It still seems to have some parts that look twisted more than other parts. But, I can tell a difference in arrow flight, at least it seems different. The arrows seem to fly faster and drop is less. My brace is just at 6.5" and holding.....but I expect to have to keep checking it.

My sponge is dry. I need moisture of knowledge please. Thanks all.

Bud

Not trying to steal your thread Bud...but who makes bowstrings with B55?  I read some older threads but couldn't find a listing for them.

According to the company I bought the string from it's the "new" B-50. It does seem a bit thinner per strand than B-50. I'm guessing my stretch is likely from my lack of twist skill while making the string. But the second string I made does do better than the first one. It has settled in I think. I let it sit all night. Shot it some this Am. Let it sit. Lost another near 1/2" of brace height. Set it back to just over 6.5" brace. Now it seems steady after shooting it about 40 more times this evening.

I'm too green to know if the stretch is all my fault or the string material. Or both.
