I have a chance to hunt an area with a couple of small wooded areas. The question being the area has houses and such on almost all sides.The deer move in and out of the areas at night when traffic flow is slower.If I make a poor shot and remain quiet, will the deer likely hold or is it going to leave the woodlot.I can legally hunt here but it is tight.I never really hunted in such tight areas for deer.Even though I have been bow hunting a long time.Will show a couple pictures from cam. Try to get your thoughts away from making a poor shot. The name of the game is confidence. Start by only taking high percentage shots.
Now to answer your question, it solely depends on the hit. a pounce shot deer will lay down soon if there is absolutely no pressure.Any other hit will cause more trauma and the deer's reaction will be flight. Large bucks can run a long distance in a short period of time, they are strong animals.
You didn't say how much the wood lot covered, but even a well hit deer could easily cover 200 yards.

Those deer are dandies and very tempting but may wind up on someone's front lawn, take that into account when making your decision.
I had a depredation permit for a 4 acre property-about the same size as your woodlot-and decided to walk on the opportunity.

I hunt a number of similar areas in Northern Virginia. I have found that when hit they tend to run down the same trails they normally use to the heaviest cover. If that means crossing a hardtop road and through backyards, they will do it. If the woodlot has cover they stay, but most of the woodlots I hunt are pretty thin. Hit them well and they won't go that far.

the covers here is thick and only gone to take a shot if it feels perfect, These deer are not presured at all

I have had two experiences in a tight cover surrounded by houses. My buddy shot a buck far back and it walked down to the bottom of the property. When we trailed it we put him up and he headed to houses about 150 yards away. We backed out. Found him the next day, he had only gone about 100 yards and bedded again, before crossing into any yards. I shot one that was hit high and got some liver and some lung, he went a long way, crossing a yard after dark into another larger woodlot. We found him there after a long tracking job. If it is thick, and they are hurt I think they would bed down before crossing an open yard. I think they would be more likely to drop in a yard on a hard run from a good lung or heart shot where they just run until they drop.
