Back in my first years of bowhunting and still in my late teens/early 20's the hunting videos were just starting to get really popular. One of my favorites was October Whitetails (I think?) with Barry Wensel (I'm pretty sure?) and another guy who for the life of me I can't remember his name?
Barry shot some whitetails on the run like he is so famous for and I can remember watching that video over and over again with complete amazement!
They just don't make em like that anymore.
Whether Mr. Wensel realizes it or not, he had a major influence on a fledgling bowhunter way back when. It was fellas like him that inspired me to be the best bowhunter I could possibly be and gave me the will to stick with it all these years. Now some 26 years later, I'm still bowhunting and I wouldn't trade a minute of it for anything in the world.
I'm sure many of you know the video I'm talking about, I'm positive that Mr. Wensel remembers, but do any of you all know where I can get a copy of that video? Maybe it's even been copied to DVD?
I really miss those old videos where it was real footage, wild, fair chase, hunting without all the canned/high fence hunting like it is today. Another of my favorites was a video of Howard Hill and I can't remember the name of it, but Howard shot a Javelina from atop a cliff, shooting straight down into a small gap between the rocks and the javelina were so far down that they looked like squirrels. He also did some trick shooting in the video like bustin' clays, wing shooting pheasants, and the like.
It sure would be great to pick up some of my old favorites from the past and it would really get me in the mood again for this season. I've been in a bit of a slump lately and I need a jumpstart.
I think one of Barry's videos or Howard Hill would just might do the trick!

Ya that was a great video for me as well. I've had it for 18 years and still dig it out prior to each bow season. That and "Shooting better than ever..."

wow.....i just got finished watching it. I do it every year before the season starts! Rick blase and Gene Biddlespatcher is in it as well. Your right, they dont make'em like that any more.

Chris: It's still available on our website www.brothersofthebow.com (http://www.brothersofthebow.com) along with a couple others also now in DVD. We laugh about the fact they used to sell for $39.95 each on VHS or BETA but now you can get two of them for $13. One of the few things in life that's gotten cheaper/better. SEMO-I loved that video too and there was something about the music that made it so intriguing! Thanks for the reminder and keep shootin' 'em straight!

I was in caribou camp several years ago with Gene Bildspacher(?)-pretty sure I miss spelled that, when he was the producer for the Buckmasters TV show. I recognized him from the Bowhunting October Whitetails video. He was a great guy to have in camp. Really enjoyed the Bowhunting October Whitetails videos. Hope there are more coming soon!

I remember bein in my early 20's and meetin Barry, Gene B and even Pete L at Bowhunters Warehouse when they brought that VHS out. They had people packed in that tent watching Barry shoot them running deer!! I agree with you Semo they were a huge influence on me to.....I cant tell you how many ballons I popped bein rolled in our yard inside a tire......still havent shot a running deer though :archer:

If I did that, I would have to have a HUGE backstop or I'd spend most of my time building arrows! :biglaugh:
