A lot of the Tradgang members are PBS members, including me. I've often wondered how many.
Great organization

Whip is right, check out the giveaway forum and sign up for the free membership drawing, great chance to give PBS a free test drive.

Regular since early 80's there.Great bunch of hunting guys. I like the looks of Comptons too. I have been with P&Y since '76 and those guys dont get it...just a industry thing there anymore, SURE NOT what it started to be. BUT I do like PBS and Comptons looking good.
-
Regular member here also. Check it out, You'll like what you see!
-
Thanks for the info 5deer, I'm heading to the site right now!
-
I joined PBS a long time ago...amazing how much my life changed as a result of that decision. Nothing else I've ever done in bowhunting has contributed so much to my pursuits...and my knowledge.
-
I am an associate member and joined early this year. Also attended the PBS Banquet in Nashville.Great people and great organization.
-
I joined in the 80's after first finding out about PBS from a few magazines given me by my outfitter friend....and knew then that I wanted to be a part of it.
PBS is'nt just an organization formed to promote bowhunting, as are most...it is also a gathering place for those who make bowhunting a "bigger" part of the picture in their lives. That was me then, and still is.
And PBS's structured membership insures it will remain as so. I like that too. You don't see the constant ebb and flow of emotional issues and controversial members within PBS...just dedicated bowhunters who know how to tackle issues like gentlemen, (and women), keep debates lively but civil, and truly enjoy each others company. Many are leaders in their own bowhunting lives on more local levels, and they bring that "professsionalism" with them. That's why I became a regular member a decade ago, and have gotten both my sons involved as associate members as well.
Did'nt mean for this to sound like an ad! But hey, what a great group they are! Just wish I could attend more of the biennial banquets.
It's no wonder that PBS'ers and Trad-gangers are involved in both places....very similar in many ways!
-
Associate member here.
-
PBS is family.
-
Regular member since 1993 and proud of it.
-
Regular member since 1972 with a short hiatus of 31 years. What can I say? My interests changed but are now back to where they belong.
-
What I find exceptional is that we share so many common interests:TG-Pbs-Bowhunting-Trad values.
-
Reguler member here since 2001. I can't say enough about the quality of the membership and the organization.
Best thing I've ever done.
-
Proud member here, too. :campfire: :archer: :archer2:
-
Is there a difference between "associate member" and "regular member"? If so, what is it? Just curious...
-
Regular members have the right and responsibility to vote. There are a few basic requirements for regular membership, but beyond that, regular membership is really just a way of demonstrating an even stronger commitment to bowhunting and the ethics and values that PBS stands for.
I've been an associate member since I first joined and have never felt like I was treated any differently by any regular or associate member. It's like being a part of a big family regardless of the title.
All PBS members, associate and regular, share these beliefs:
» That by choice, bowhunting is their primary archery interest, and their ultimate aim and interest is the taking of wild game by bow and arrow of suitable weights in a humane and sportsmanlike manner;
» To share their experiences, knowledge and shooting skills;
» To be a conscientious bowhunter, promoting bowhunting by working to elevate its standards and the standards of those who practice the art of bowhunting;
» To provide training in safety, shooting and hunting techniques;
» To practice the wise use of our natural resources, the conservation of our wild game and the preservation of our natural habitat.
I think it is time for me to take the next step am in the process of finishing up my application for regular membership.
-
I was a regular way back when and let my membership slip, but recently got reinstated as a regular. If you are serious about bowhunting (and you probably wouldn't be on this site unless you were), PBS is a great group to be a part of.
-
Associate member and love it.
-
very well said Mark !! the PBS is a great group, one of which I have been a member of for alot of years, and a regular for about 10 years, I am very proud of this group and the ethics carried by each and every member..
-
I'm looking forward to getting to meet you guys in 2012 as Portland, Or. is the site for the banquet.

A few PBS members are having an ad hoc Christmas membership drive. We have had over twenty members step up and agree to pay for a new members membership. The giveaway thread was moved to a different area of TradGang located at the address above.

Thanks for the info on PBS. I've been a member of BC and PY for a long time. I just joined PBS via their website as a 1st-year associate about 10 minutes ago. I'll leave the give-away memberships for others.
When and where is their next convention?
-
Roy: Welcome to PBS. You just missed one in your back yard, last March it was held in Nashville. In March 2012 it will be in Portland.
-
I confess, I let my membership lapse, and have rejoined. Thanks for the reminder.
-
Associate member since 1986,love the banquets.
-
Great organization. Am a Regular Member, and proud to be associated with so many great Associate and Regular Members who feel the same about bowhunting that I do.
-
I've been a member for a few years now, and I'm sold on PBS. My wife and I went to the Nashville gathering for Saturday only, and still made some wonderful friends. I've attended several other big conventions and meetings all across the country, and never have I been around such a great, friendly group. Many of the "Big Names" in archery were there, and to a person, were just like home folks, which goes a long way with us.
-
I think so much of PBS, they are in my will.
-
Well put Mark and Joe. Best group of bowhunters that I know of.
One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that the banquets are attended by many spouses as well. My wife went to the first one in St Louis in 2000 a bit reluctantly and now she looks forward to them at lteast as much as I do. She can't wait for Portland and is making plans already. It's just that type of crowd. You just love being around all these folks.
-
I have been a member of PBS since 1977. Have never missed any of the banquets. If I could only be a member of one bowhunting/hunting organization, this is the one I would choose.
-
I received my 1st issue of the PBS magazine yesterday -- very quick! I'm glad I joined. As dominant an influence bowhunting has been in my life I(after God and Family) I should have joined many years ago. I don't know why it took me so long to do this. I've been with PY for 31 years, Boone & Crockett for nearly 10, and I'm a lifetime member of one of my state's bowhunter orgs.
I think the word "Professional" through me off. Even though I've been a bowhunter since the mid-teens and my career (1st one and current one) are archery-heavy, I never considered myself a "professional" (still don't). I always associated "Pro" with the sponsor logo/patch wearing crowd which isn't my style.
I really like the magazine and have read most of the articles. The moose hunting article was terrific. I was surprised to see Norm Johnson of Blacktail is an "officer" and I liked his article. I had never seen his picture, I thought he was much older than is depicted. One of the councilmen's editorials is very thought-provoking (why so many bows and broadheads have such gruesome monikers). The interview with a well-known bowhunter was also intriguing to me, especially coming from my wildlife agency background. It caused me to wonder what really happened 25 years ago in Ohio? I read the fellow in question's book way back then and learned a lot. But when the controversy occurred I ceased to be a fan-- now I wonder.
I'm wondering about the mid-year meeting and certainly plan to attend Portland in 2012.
-
Bowwild, glad to see you joined. Welcome
On the PBS site there is a forum for the "Odd Year Gatherings". The one in Wisconsin on the weekend of July 16 is missing however. Brian Tessmann is running that one.
I look forward to meeting you.
-
Here you go Bowwild. The PBS site has been up dated. Hope you can make it.

JAG:
Howdy from "Seal Back"!
-
I joined from here in Oz a while back and got delivered a bunch of great stuff from Barbara.
It is great to see an organisation of such dedicated folks standing up for something that is so close to my heart ... even if it is from a few thousand miles away.
-
SteveH, aka,Seal Back, a Howdy back at ya'll.
Folks just gotta be there to appreciate the PBS Banquet.
You get to meet alot of best! One of my heros talked me into comming, and I made alot of new friends and heros!

-
Associate member and proud of it.
-
Very proud to be a PBS member..!
-
I've been a Regular member since 1970. I belong to several other bowhunting organizations, but PBS is my favorite for all the reasons mentioned by others here.
-
Tic-toc-tic-toc on the Christmas membership giveaway!
-
Yep Steve gonna be some lucky guys shortly!
-
Been associate for a few years. Bout time to make the next step.
-
I have been an associate member for 20+ years . I filled out my regular application twice and never turned it in . I probably never will .
Its a great organization but I really dont enjoy banquets and organized events all that much so I just cant see myself fitting in to the "regular" profile.
-
I joined in the late 1980s and it was one of the best decisions I've made. A great bunch of folks. The Bi-Annual Gatherings are well worth attending.
After bowhunting with my son-in-law for the past five years, he has now become a member. We need to become more active in exposing the younger crowd to PBS. After all, they are our future.

Well said Barney.

PBS has a "Young Bowhunter" program and conducts a youth leadership hunt every 2 years or so.

Steve O. posted the winners of the membership raffle at this link. Thanks everyone and congrats to a whole bunch of you!
-
I just joined this morning.
-
Good going Tracy, glad to have you!
-
I'll admit that I am one of those that has a hard time with the name of the organization. Just do not like the "professional" moniker. Nonetheless, I have considered PBS in the past. However, what has actually prevented me from joining is not wanting to spread myself too thin. Besides my state hunting organization and the two groups listed in my sig line, for many years I have also been a Life Member of the RMEF and a B&CC Lifetime Associate.
That said, perhaps I should give PBS another look.
-
The BIG difference between PBS and other organizations is, it really is a "Society" not just a "club".
Please anyone that gets hung up on the word "Professional", please look it up in the dictionary--not trying to be a smart A$$.
MANY words have more than one meaning.
-
Steve, I have looked it up in the dictionary. With perhaps the exception of "knowing one's stuff" I really don't think any of the definitions apply. Even so, you make a very good point. The name is what it is and it's nothing that anyone should get hung up on (me included).
As I said, I will give PBS another look. Looks like there will be an off-year gathering in Eastern Oregon this summer and a banquet in Portland in 2012. I could easily make one or both of these events to check out PBS firsthand.
-
Sounds good R-elk, come track me down in Portland!
-
Good thread. I have just starting looking into joining PBS. Like some have mentioned I have had a little trouble with the name "professional". I had the assumption that PBS was a group of "eliteist's". However, I do feel that assumnption was wrong. I am assuming PBS will have a booth at K-zoo in Jan. I plan on talking to those folks at the booth.
What is the difference b/w a Regular member and Associate member?
chris <><
-
Iam now a member! I should have joined years ago as there beliefs have been the same as mine for forty years.Glad to be aboard.
-
Onions: The major difference between Associate members and Regular members are that Regular members can become an officer, vote for officers, and vote on other Society issues that arise. That simple.
PBS was set up to protect the interests of bowhunters after seeing what happened to the NFAA being taken over by target archers. They wanted to make sure that didn't happen to the PBS, very wise!
The Regular membership application process is set up, not to be elitist, but to be protective of the Society by making sure that only dedicated bowhunters have the opportunity to steer the Society
-
It is been a good choice since then.
-
Congratulations to all the lucky winners. Steve, please let me know what I need to do.
