This year I decided that I was going to hunt as much from the ground as I did from a treestand and see just what my season would be like. From the ground I had 2 buck in at less than 15 yds. One of the largest at 4 steps but I didn't make sure my natural blind was adequate to cover most of my movements and couldn't draw! I was able to take a doe from the ground at 3 yds. and one from a tree stand at 12 yds. In the end I had 11 deer less than 20 yds from me on the ground and 9 less than 20 yds from me in the tree. I'll probably do even less treestand hunting in 2011 because it just doesn't seem to matter.
By the way when I began bowhunting the treestand hadn't been officially invented yet so hunting from the ground isn't new to me but I became chained to the tree's over the years like most hunters have.
I've went to all longbows for the upcoming year and hunting from the ground just seems like the thing to do!

I have been hunting from the ground since I got out of the trees 15 years ago. I put down the recurve and picked up the long bow about4 years ago. Now there is no other way, in my mind, for me to ever hunt deer, or any other game that lives on the ground. The joys, thrills, kills, misses...... all of the experiences, have completely changed my life. I can only imagine what heaven will be like.

I'm with you. When I see how much enjoyment I get out of my life here because of God's blessings I can't begin to think how much better Heaven will be. My son has taken his bowhunting to another level in the fact that he not only uses a longbow but makes his own shafting, knapps his own heads and if he could make a bow that pulled at least 80# he would use his own bow too. Life is good my friend!
