...what do you all use? I know that there are a variation of different heads that work well, so what which one do you like best and why? Anybody use good 'ol blunts? I did notice that they're MUCH more affordable than others. Thanks!
-
I use blunts quiet a bit, also Judo's and Hammer Heads.
-
Judos and hammer heads for me also...DB
-
Judos and hex heads.
-
Small game heads from Big Jim are hard to beat.
-
judos have served me well over the years...
-
Ok, great. Thanks for the input. I'll look closer at all of these thanks! Anyone else? Only one so far that uses plain 'ol blunts...who else uses 'em?
-
Judos a lot. Also make my own via directions here in the archives.
-
I use judos untill the ground freezes. Frozen ground tends to snap off the spring loaded claws and bend the tip on the judo.
With frozen ground I use the rubber slip on blunts. They bounce rather than break on the frozen turf. They also leave a better hole or path in snow for retrieval.
If you tune your arrows, you will want to adjust for the different heads.

Check out the talons from Red Feather they are devastating on small game! I need more of them.
Keeping the Faith!

judos, hammers, screw in type rubber blunts and a collection of old broadheads that have out lived their usefulness for bigger game

I like judos when I can get them in the weight I need. Hex heads are ok, but for stumping I like more grab and they don't have a real good claw and not a big head area in the lighter weights. I do like them when shooting small game due to better penitration than my favorite stump heads. Same goes for standard blunts; I only use them for bails. The hammer heads have more grab and the VPA more yet. Those are my all around stump heads of choice right now. I like the big claws and large dia head of the VPA plus the fact those don't change with head weight; the back of the head just gets longer as the head gets heavier..

muzzy makes "grasshoppers" just like judos, only they fit behind your screw in point. they cost less than judos.

I like the Ace Hex and also a head called the GameNabber at half the cost (now produced by PDP - Precision Design Products). Good for bunnies, too.

Talons are my go to stumping head now. Very tough.
-
Judos and .357 cases.
-
Judos for me for many years
-
Judos and VPA small game heads.
God Bless,
Nathan

Field tip with a washer behind it. Doesnt affect flight and I get a 100 of them for 80 cents.
-
g5 sgh. its like a judo but doesnt get clogged with mud and gunk, and easy to clean. I did snap one in half on a rock, dont know if thats a testament for or against it. hopefully you dont shoot rocks purposefully.. :archer:

JUDO

I've had good luck with hex heads..I also use Judo's but have had the springs come off them.
-
Hammers
-
Been shooten the SGT heads, 175 gr. I bought from Kustom King.
Me likes 'em!

Judos

Judo's and Tarantula's can't be beat...

Here are some of the heads posted above. I thought it could help out seeing them together. I think all work well, but the field point with something behind them doesn’t work well for me if I am really shooting stumps, sticks, and logs or have a chance to hit them. They tend to imbed deep in something even semi hard and be difficult to get back out or if I get them out I bend them particularly 175 gr. and up field points. These all bounce off or if they stick it is something real soft and they come out easy.
L to R 125 judo, 100 Easton Judo type, 125 Hex Head, 145 Hammer, 100 Hammer, 125 VPA and175 VPA. That 145 hammer did a full on hit on a 100# rock at about 20 yd. after I shot just over a ground squirrel. Very durable head.

I have a pack of 125 and 160 regular plain ol' flat nose blunts just waiting on me to make up some shafts to go stumpin'. You are not alone. I do also have some hex blunts, judos, bunny busters? ( the ones with the back end all twisted), rubber blunts and .357 cases. I was forcasting a long winter....

Thanks for all of the great feedback everyone. This has definitely been a helpful thread. Xtrema, thanks for the nice pic!

RFA Talons now. The most accurate, well built, lethal small game head I've found to date. The arrow will break before the Talon does!
-
Zwickey Judos all the way!

Check this out-

This is a blunt that holds a paintball, so when you are stumpin' with a blunt you can see where you hit. Or if you have some crazy buddies and some light weight bows you could play cowboys and indians.
This is just a concept, but I should be getting it into production this year.
-
Paint ball arrows? I like it! If that head is real soft rubber to absorb a lot of shock from hitting harder stuff it would be great for no so soft stumps and logs.
-
Very cool concept, Blake. Will screw-in models be available?
-
always come back to good ol' judos.
-
still not a ton of feedback about standard blunts...nobody uses them?
-
I prefer judos, but I would like to have a handful of talons! Jason

thats cool!! are you goin to make them in screw ins?
-
I am going to design them with enough of a taper to accept a threaded adapter, and a 5/16" diameter so it should fit most arrows.
I am still working on the drawing, so bear with me, if I can work on it a little more, I will post another idea that I have in the morning.
-
I do like plain old blunts. They make a nice noise when they hit a stump and don't bury themselves TOO bad when I miss.

Oh yes. Carry two in my quiver when deer hunting to keep my eye and muscles worked in. I fling more blunts at stumps (and milk jugs) than any other point over the course of a year. But when small game hunting (which corresponds to stump season this time of year) I like an added edge.
-
Judos for stump shooting in the woods & kondors if shooting in a field or yard.
-
Here is a what I think would be an improved version.
The "hooks" would be better to prevent skipping and add some strength.
-
I use those small game heads from G5, they shoot great and are very tough.
-
Any body know if these heads from eclipse are available yet?
-
Judos for me but I have just started trying the SGT(Small Game Thumper) screw-in heads. So far, so good.
-
Judos are the way to go. Ive tried G5 sgh heads, I had one shatter on hard stumps. also the muzzy grasshoppers proved to be too light a wire guage, and bent real bad. judos are the best out there in my mind.
-
Hex heads with the separate Muzzy Grasshopper spring arms added. Hard to lose and easy to remove from the stump.
-
Ramin wood shafts (cheap) tipped with 357 cases. I add #9 lead shot to get desired weight and compress with co-ax tool.
