I took my young nephew with me to our hunting lease (I have taken him "under my wing" to teach him hunting and woodsmanship as my brother does not hunt). We hunted together in a ground blind Friday and Saturday and we saw several deer but mostly young bucks and didn't shoot anything. We saw other wildlife as well and really had a great time. He thoroughly enjoyed the adventure.
This morning I wanted to start getting things cleaned up but hated to see him miss a learning opportunity so I had him go hunt with another lease member (who was rifle hunting in a tower blind) while I stayed in camp and got packed up and ready to go.
On the drive home I asked him how he enjoyed the rifle hunt versus bowhunting. He said "Uncle Paul it was fine but to me, rifle hunting was like watching a football game from the stands, bowhunting is like actually playing in the game". I don't know if I have ever heard a better explanation.

Wow, that's amazing! I couldn't have said it better myself.

Way to go, he already has a vision at a young age. A feeling he will never forget and a great memory with his Uncle. This is the start of a hat full of memories for a very fortunate nephew.
-
Wise beyond his years.
-
Some people just "get it" your nephew a bit earlier than others. :readit: :campfire:

Thanks for all of the kind words. I'll make sure he gets to read all of them. It will reinforce his interest in bowhunting and the outdoors to see how you guys responded.
-
Very wise young man. And good for you for introducing him to our passion.
-
So much said in those few words when often times it takes full articles to convey the point of this topic.
I feel rejuvenated after reading his response. It was as if I understood for the 1st time why I have this passion.

There's rifle hunting, and then there's rifle hunting, though. There is some rifle hunting that surpasses in challenge, danger and skill my bowhunting out of a bush blind at a dam in the desert for thirsty animals, though that is hard and I love every bit of it. If I may be so bold as to proffer a controversial opinion here, as I dream of Africa I am lured more toward stalking with my rifle than through employing other means with my bow. However, don't get me wrong, as I wouldn't mind doing both, it's just that not all rifle hunting is like watching football, and not all bowhunting is like playing football.

the most amazing things come form our kids mouths .take the time to listen! at times you will be stopped in your tracks!give a little credit to your self the introduction came from YOU.we walk'em to the window an hope they see what we see.but the amazing gift is when they share back to us what they see an how they it.

Ben Kleinig - Well taken and puts the two in proper perspective based on the possibilities.
Most likely, many viewing this topic from the states don't even contemplate rifle hunting as being a viable challenge, except for a few species, from what we have witnessed.

I like that.
-
Awesome.

I couldn't have thought of a better way to say it, smart kid!! Jason
