I'm moving to Oregon. We will be living outside of Lebanon, to the east. Excited to get to know some of you guys and get to know the state! Should be a riot. We are finally going on our "permanent camping trip" (so dubbed by my boys).
Anybody know anything I should know? Resources, hot-spots, events, etc?
Thanks and enjoy!
-
Congrats. What a beautiful.state!
-
You are going enjoy Oregon.
I spent over 30 years on my camping trip there.
John
-
One of the best hunting states anywhere!
-
Im jeleous. I'm with Bjorn..I think it would be a great place for a bowhunter.
-
yup I visited there bout 2 years ago and didn't wanna come back.
Way to go and have a great new life!
-
Thanks guys! I vacillated posting this. But alas, even a solitary man needs community.
I'm mourning leaving my native Wyoming, though I've vowed to be back every September. The sage in bloom, the antelope on every street corner, the loneliness available, etc.
On the other hand, the northwest is calling me! I hear there are a couple elk in Oregon, so with some time and work I hope to get in them. pretty excited to get out there.
-
I only live 9 miles from Lebanon. Do all my deer hunting just the other side of Lebanon on Scott Mt. PM me when you arrive and are settled in and perhaps we can meet up for coffee. I'm not the local authoritarian on elk but, can give you some things to consider. Lots of camping, fishing and hunting opportunities going toward the Cascades. And believe me, you ain't that far from them!
-
Good luck to you!
-
Congrats!
-
Welcome to Oregon! Definitely go to the Pope and Young shoot in Brownsville this summer. PM me before you go and I'll meet you up there and shoot with you. Great trad shoot!
-
Great Hunting...I like the turkeys down in Jackson County...that being said, the income and property taxes drove me to Washington. Never looked back.
-
Welcome to the west end. Lots of great things to do in Oregon. Come up to the Moses Lake Shoot in eastern WA. Make sure to go to Western States Rondevous it is in Oregon this year.
-
Don't miss Raptor Archery up in Hood River, just the drive up along the Columbia is worth it. And be sure to get your kids and Mrs. over the coast.
-
It's to bad those pacific coast states are over run with the lunatic libs. Other wise it be a great place to live. Course where I live may be worse!!!!
-
Shoulda posted this before, check out www.taoregon.com (http://www.taoregon.com) for all the shoot dates in Oregon.
-
Oh boy, you're in for it now. You'll be hanging out with this Oregon bowhunter crowd! haha We do get a little wet up here. But that's why it's so green and the animals are so healthy. After a year or three you'll be a real "mossy back". Born and raised, 4th generation. It would be fun to meet up at the Pope & Young and talk hunting Oregon/Wyoming. Just ask anyone were the TAB (The Adventurous Bowmen)guys camp.
-
Welcome to Oregon. I will be new to hunting Oregon this year as well. Lots to learn.
-
I've traveled to Oregon on several occassions. My wife and I love the coast and have been from one end to the other. Grants Pass, OR (SW Central) was deemed the best place to live in the U.S. about 6-7 years ago.
Wait until you are driving along the Columbia river some time headed towards Portland. If it's a nice day there will be thousands of windsurfers on the water -- looks like a GIANT mayfly hatch!
-
If I were able to move, I'd move there.
Killdeer
-
very glad to hear so much positive vibe.
I've never been to a bonafide trad shoot before. cant wait!
Anything open for hunting any time soon? Course, I wont be a resident for awhile I suppose. lookin forward to getting to know you all.
Whats the season on squirrels? :-)
-
what possessed you to move from wyoming to oregon? holy cow,it would be very hard to leave wyoming behind..welcome to the nw,like tw said you arent far from elk in lebanon.theres not much going on right now as far as hunting goes around here, maybe some coyotes..plenty of them.
-
I was invited to go nutria hunting Sat. That will be a first! The Pope&Young is a good time. Beautiful site with pastures to camp in and timbered hill sides for the shoot.

Good luck on your Oregon venture elkbreath!
Turkey season opens April 15th. Fair number of birds in the Linn County foothills.
Silver Gray squirrels (Western Gray) are legal to kill in the valley from Aug 27 to Nov 9, no limit. Grey Diggers (ground squirrels)are legal anytime you see one.
If you plan on hunting Blacktails during the rut, the area Lebanon has some good hunting in the foothills. They taught everything they know to the Whitetail deer, but left out the minor details about being seen by hunters. :readit:
Have fun! :campfire:

The land is among the most beautiful places on earth. I would have moved there instead of Kentucky last May if it weren't for Oregon's progressive crowd. I grew up there, and even as a kid I new that just because an idea is new doesn't mean it's better or good.
Try to ignore the politics and social issues and you will enjoy your setting immensely.
-
Moving from WY to OR...wow, life's rough. I moved from AZ to IN...not exactly the same tradeoffs! Good luck and enjoy it. I have some friends that live near Portland and they love it.

Nutria hunting! Oh, I'm jealous. Good luck and have a blast

Reasons to live in Oregon over Wyoming (WYO will always be home) center around the WHY of of why I am moving.
we have 64 acres up there. we can grow a garden that doesn't consist purely of kale and short herbs. (we live at 7500 ft here). We are living in a geodesic dome and after a bit, a yurt, That area of Oregon is much more forgiving temperature wise. The humidity will give us issues, but those we can deal with. A trade-off.
My animals will have great pasture land and plenty of water. short grass in wyoming, when you're lucky to see it, let alone water!
My wife and I love organic fresh produce and sustainable living, and there aren't many places in the world more friendly to those ideas.
We run a Mobile pizza company. We have stone ovens built on a trailer and take them to farmers markets and the like. Incredibly good pizza in moments, with all-natural and organic fresh ingredients (sales-pitch :-) ). Again, that area is very ideal for this type of business, over the Laramie area for sure.
I love to fly-fish, love the rockies, the trees, all the stuff ya'll do. And I here there's some pretty country in those Oregon hills!
Finally I agree entirely with this statement, "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." again, oregon has wyoming beat in this for healthy simple and incredible foods/drink.
The hunting I figure to be a wash. I'll get in em with some determination and time. And my kids will be able to shoot 24/7 there. So, off we go.
Thanks again.

Watch out for bigfoot!
-
Definitely check out the Pope & Young shoot in Brownsville, and look up the TAB (The Adventurous Bowmen) camp spot. Look us up, it will be great to meet you. Lived in Wyoming for a year growing up. Fantastic memories-I still miss the smell of Russian Olives blooming.
Snag, we need pictures! Especially of the P&Y nutria you are sure to get!!

I want to welcome you to the most beautiful state in the USA and plumb full of progressive liberals. Overlook that if you can, I evidently can't, and enjoy the wonderful beauty of Oregon outdoors and the best climate in the world. At least here in the Rogue Valley. Bowhunting for just about every big game animal there is except Griz and Moose . Good fishing in places but just awsomely beautiful. However even the conservatives here are liberal. With a few exceptions. LOL. There are lots of places for your pizza truck though. God Bless and good Luck, Steve

A side note... if you are a member or plan on joing the PBS??? There next big banquet will be in Portland Ore in March of 2012. ;)
BTW, welcome to the Pac. NW.. I live about 20 miles north of Portland Ore and there are several great trad shoots in these two states..Along with great hunting..you will like it I'm sure. :wavey:

Sounds like you've got a pretty cool place. Enjoy the move, you're going to love Oregon!
-
Mobile pizza oven! Hey, bring that to the Pope&Young! haha
If you guys are gardners you'll love this area. You'll be chest high in veggies. Let me know when your up this way. Always looking for a good piece of pizza. I've been looking at ideas for building a stone oven in the backyard.
-
You will have to make the moses lake rock shoot, one of the best shoots out west...PR
-
When are you headed out. We never did get to hang out.
-
snag, now thats an idea. Who would I get a hold of to start down that path?
I agree ferret. Incredible since we share the same passion and live so close!
Where you hunting this fall? I'll be in wyoming for a month. perhaps then! Im leaving feb 28..coming fast.

Warning... Try to sleep next the "TAB" campsite is not an easy thing to do. These guys and gals have WAY too much fun! If you bed down early camp a good 100 yards from this camp site and bring ear muffs. :biglaugh: The best thing to do is just go join the fun.
This is an outstanding shoot you don't want to miss. Kirk

Columbian Blacktail, Columbian Whitetail literally in my back yard. Roosevelt Elk 5 min. away. Rocky mountain Elk and Mule Deer 2hrs. away. Speed Goat oh 2hrs. also. Gotta shoo the turkeys out of the way to get to work-honest. Don't tell anyone, it's a secret. The Whitetail keep their distance, but the Blacktails only come out at night!
-
Not sure if it's been mentioned earlier, but the Western States Rendezvous is Memorial Day weekend near Tygh Valley on the east slope of Mt Hood.
