I got this one done today, I worked on it here and there over the last few weeks, it's made from left over scraps, and the riser is a piece of a busted wheel barrow handle, not sure what type wood, maybe ipe or iron wood, it wasn't hickory like most tool handles are. Anyhow I painted it with black bedlinner, and gave it a camo effect with gray spray paint. It's 60" long 51 @ 28". I've shot it a bunch this afternoon when I got done working and I really like it.

I was a horseman for ten years. The wheelbarrow handle appeals to me!

Cool! If you like the way it shoots then by all means shoot it. I think it's great that you made a fine bow from wood that would otherwise be scrapped.
-
That is cool! I don't think it's ugly at all. Awesome job!!

Wow Mike, you've taken your recycling program to a whole new level with this one! Mutt style backing I suppose?
-
That bow looks good you took some scrap and made it funtional good job Mike
-
Looks like it must be shooting pretty decent too!
-
Yes it's M.U.T.T. styled to the extreme, infact the upper limb on the belly side had half of the limb clear and the other half black. the lower limb on the belly was all brown, and the back is two 1/2 inch wide pieces of black glass. Ash laminations.

Nice cluster of shafts!Good job, cool aint never landed a broadhead in the pump station.

Nice job Mike, waste not want not my grandma always used to say. :D
Actually, my favorite bow to shoot at the moment was made from an ugly, nasty, twisty, knotty Osage stave that I was absolutely certain that I could not sell. It was just daring me to make a bow out of it, so I set out on a mission to do just that.
I figured that if I could make a good shootable bow out of this stave, all the rest would be a piece of cake.
Now some 500 shots or so later, it's an absolute joy to shoot. It hits right where I'm looking and very accurate. It's only 40# @28" but a pleasure to shoot. I've even been offered money for it, but I can't bear to turn loose of it.
Sometimes when we take a chance on the unexpected, the wood just has a way of suprizing us. Great job man, I really like the camo job!

Actually every bow I made for myself in the past somebody liked it and ended up buying it off me, after twisting my arm. I figure this one's so rough looking nobody will want it.

As soon as I read about the bed liner I was thinking you had mixed glass under there.
Seems like a great idea for a hunting bow!

How did you get that piece of wheel barrow handle into the riser?
Amazing bow. It should sell.
-
Now that is down right coooool looking! Nothing ugly about that bow Mike. Congrats. :clapper:
-
not going to lie. i really dig the looks of it. not ugly at all IMO. want to see a ugly bow i can show you my bear polar with camo duct tape
-
That's because you guys haven't seen it close up. I only sanded it to 100 grit, and I have maybe 2 hours of work in it. I glued it up some time ago as a prototype and just got around to making something of it.
-
I think its cool looking, and it seems to shoot good.
-
Congrats Mike,to make a good shooter out of scraps is a smart project.I love the finish too, good for hunting.

LongStykes and shifting shadow, I'm not selling this one, but the ones I make from that form I call midsized lognbows for now, (until I come up with a different name,) and they sell for (once tax is applied) $194 and some change.
The thing a lot of people don't know about me is even though I bould bows and lots of them. I haven't been able to hold on to any I've made for myself. It's actually funny that a bowyer doesn't have a bow to hunt with. Lots of customers get a big laugh when they ask how the hunting season is and I tell them I don't have a bow to hunt with. I let them know I did have one but somebody liked it and talked me into selling it to them. I see the humor in it as well.
This one, I'm sure, if anyone was to actually hold it they wouldn't want it. Who knows maybe I'll get a chance to hunt again this fall.

Paint a big crack in the riser, and I'm sure no one would want to buy it then. I like your MUTT bows. Nothing goes to waste.
