Whats your favorite string? What is fastest and quietest? What bow or bows do you use them on? Just thought everyone would like to know including me. Thanks Mike

Oliverstacey 10 strand D-97 with padded loops!!!!!
One heck of a great guy and super awesome strings!!
I use them on my 60 inch St. Joe longbow 53@28. I had to up my arrow spine a wee bit and had noticeable speed increase with less noise, plus his strings barely stretch after many shots. :)

I really like SBD bow string.
-
I make my own out of B50, don't have any other material to make any out of.
-
RIght now making my own using the Ultra Cam. Really like the stuff so far, shot one over the whole last season, no issues at all.

Here are my favorites of all time....I may be a little biased though! :archer:

12 strands of D97 with the loops padded with 4 extra strands. Self made of course.
-
16 strands of Dynaflight 10
-
I use a few different ones, some of my bows are quieter with 450+ and some with D97 and some with 8125.
-
SBD strings will be the only string that grace my bows. I have them on my Morrison ILF and my Kantai and couldn't be happier. Pierre and JP are two of the best people you will ever come across in your life. Their knowledge and craftsmanship go hand in hand with the caliber and character they are.

this ain't a real poll unless you set it up as such ("post a poll").
ya know, it really doesn't much matter what string ya use as long as it works for ya. why would it ever matter what other folks are using? what you really need to understand are bowstring basics, and then make yer choice based on facts.
if yer bow isn't of modern build, you probably should only be using dacron (polyester), or bad things might happen to yer bow and you and maybe others nearby when the limbs fragment on release.
if yer bow is of reasonably recent modern build, it's probably "approved" for modern string fiber ("hmpe" = dyneema, vectran, spectra, etc - all are polyethylene in origin). yes, you could stick a dacron string on a modern bow, but why? the performance benefits of hmpe (high modulus polyethylene) strings far outweighs anything that dacron can offer. we're NOT talking limb or arrow speed, we're talking CONSISTENCY.
let's do the scientific math approach. b50 dacron is s'posed to break at 50# but in reality does so at around 45# .... 5# less also for b55 dacron.
at most, a good and overly safe tensile strength bowstring formula is 12 x the bow's holding weight. some folks go down to 10 or even 8 x the holding weight.
so a 43# bow (12sx43# = 516#) needs a minimum of 12 strands of dacron polyester (12Sx45# = 540#). that holding weight would also be fine at 10 strands (10Sx45# = 450#). or 6 strands of hmpe polyethylene (6Sx100# = 600#). add to the mix the durability factor, so low count hmpe strings might be better served by adding two more strands to the count (8Sx100# = 800#).
for my 55# mohawk i use 8 strand d'02 endless strings exclusively ... 12sx55# = 660# (the tensile strength that needs to be met) ... 8Sx100# = 800# (the tensile strength of 8 strands of d'02. in reality, almost all hmpe fibers will break at higher than 100# tensile strength - most at the 120# mark.
hope this helps.

I really like SBD 6 strands ultra strings with padded loops for my longbows.
-
Homemade Dynaflight 97, 2 bundle Flemish, 16 strands for all my bows.
-
I prefer a flemish style 12 strand (2 bundle) Dyna97 bowstring on both of my low poundage recurves.
I might try a flemish style 12 strand (2 bundle) Dyna10 bowstring sometime in the future.
-
Brownells B50 and my own hand made Flemish Twist strings. That's all I use on everything.
-
Allen Shafer - D97 8 strand padded to 16 in the loops Flemish on all my bows.
-
Astroflight 3 bundle flemish twist or D97!
-
Ultracam, 8 strand, padded loops to 16 on a Black Widow and a Border Black Douglas.
I make my own flemish strings.

I do the same. Only I use 10 strand with a 38 @ 28 bow. It was alittle noise till I put my silencers on it.

I'm pretty laid back. B-50 Dacron; two of my bows sport continuous loop and the others Flemish strings.
-
I mostly use b-50. In my experience it allows me to shoot quietly at lower brace heights than the high performance materials. That said I also use fastflight and d97 occasinally. I just like to tinker with different stuff.
-
As long as it's not a skinny string, I like 450+, TS+, and would like to try Astro Flight and Ultra Cam. Skinny strings wreak havoc on my arthritic sting fingers! :(

I too don't care for the 6 to 8 strand strings. I make my own and use two bundles of 7 strands each for a total of 14 strands of TS+ and pad the loops with 4 to 6 strands of B50. Don't have to build up or double serve as my Bohning nocks fit great. When done properly, a two bundle string will make a perfectly round string. Three bundle strings are tradition, but two work great for me.

I like Oliverstacey's 12 strand 8125 padded to 16. Shoots good and is quiet with arrows around 500grs.
-
I have a Bear Grizzly recurve using 14 strand dacron on it. Its interesting to see what everyone uses. Nice to see different varieties out there. Would kind've be boring if everyone used the bow, string, arrows, etc. I'm thinking about making my own too.
-
D10 at 10 strands, loops padded to 14-16.
-
Guess I'm old fashioned! I like B55 for everything. Haven't found a FF-type string yet that is as quiet...but hey, I'm still young.

If you have not tried SBD strings you are missing out on quality.Best I have used and I've ordered many from bunches of folks.
-
On 75 to 80-pound longbows I use 15 stands of B-50, Flemish twist.
I do not like the feel of Fast Flight strings on my fingers, as they feel like I am shooting piano wire. Too thin for comfort.
Rob, is the HMPE material similar to Fast Flight, or thicker?
-
I just get mine directly from Black Widow.
-
I make my own 3-color 12-strand Dyna97 endless strings. For older bows, I do the same only with B50.
-
Another vote for Allen Shafter he is now making D-10,s for us! Yea.
-
I favor SBD strings. Top quality and performance!
