This TradGang thread (http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=39;t=000147)   has some very useful information.

Try these links:

I tried making feather burners using model train transformers and a 6-volt battery charger with ni-chrome piano wire and did not have much luck.  Bought a used Young's Feather burner here on Trad Gang and it will not get a ni-chrome ribbon hot enough.  May be bad unit.  Bought a Lil Chopper from 3Rivers and am very happy with it.  Good Luck!

curtis' thread is a hoot, indeed!

but seriously, unless you have access to the right stuff, buying a used young is THE way to go.  i liked one so much i bought another.  :)

I've found that folks that try to build stuff like this at home, had better have the Fire Dept. on speed dial.  I'm not saying it shouldn't be done....just know what you're doing!
