This is my first post on here.
My name is Kevin, I live in Maine. I'm a middle-aged school teacher who started shooting bows 30 years ago. I've been doing the "compound thing all this time.
For years I have been watching the traditional guys shoot at my club's 3-D course. I always thought they were a little strange. "Why shoot those old bows when there is new technology out there?"
Well, for some reason, I asked to shoot a guy's recurve about a month ago. Man, way different, difficult, a little frustrating, but FUN. So I borrowed an old Kodiak Magnum and shot a tournament. What a blast! I never thought that I would be so happy to get a 5 on a deer target at 20 yards. :)
So, I bought a used longbow and it should be here Tuesday. I CAN"T WAIT.

Welcome to the Tradgang Family!!!
The "spirit of the bow" just seems to speak a completely different language as the equipment we chose moves closer to what it meant to man when it was 1st given to us as one of "His" many gifts.(IMHO)
My prayer is that both us and all of our "brothers and sisters of the bow" would listen more closely, feel more deeply and shoot more frequently with more love, not only for our sport but for each other.
Enjoy your journey along with the rest of us.
God bless, Mudd

Welcome to the family. I'm with Mudd, this is more than a sport about winning and killing. It is kind of a portal to a unity that has always existed. The world would be a better place if it was all like the Tradgang. Enjoy the trip with the rest of us.

:clapper: :archer2: Welcome Kev ! I'm new to the bow by 2 years only and I have learned an incredible amount on this site. Currently I've got some Tradgangers looking at my shooting videos and they are analysing my form, assisting me greatly. I've run into a couple of Tradgang guys while I was visiting in Missouri and had a great time stumping/roving with them on their usual Sunday shoot. So, this is the place to be. Good people and good information. From Canada: Welcome Sir.
-
Traditional bows are kinda like crack...you'll start with one and pretty soon you'll have a handful and will start to hide 'em from yer wife and kids...'No honey, this ain't a 'nother bow...I, uh, am just holdin' this one fer a fren'. Welcome aboard!
Fred....

What a ride awaits you. My dad was stationed in st Louis and at ten I went to Hoyt Archery daily as it was just down the block. Mr Hoyt sold me a bow in 1959 and I have shot since. Went to wheels forawhie and now own only longbows. It is the challenge as none of us have anything electriconour bows. wWELCOME
