I just had to take some pictures of this little beauty. It's going out to someone that already has a Shrew or two.

My thoughts exactly. I bet that one is going to Allan DeVore as well. Another masterpiece from Gregg Coffey :notworthy: :clapper: What are the specs of the bow??

Yes, it is another Shrew I am adding to my already full bow rack. Since most of my Shrews are in the low to mid 50's, I decided I needed a special one around 45 pounds to keep shooting as I aged. My next Shrew will be a Shrew Safari at about 70 pounds, so my shoulders will be begging for lighter weight after a season of shooting the heavier bow.
John (Zradix) asked what the wood overlay on the back of the grip area is. Well, John, when I was working with Gregg and Ron on a mostly Koa bow (the one before the bow in this thread), Gregg found a beautiful Koa board that had it all. He sent me a picture, and I told him to buy it for my bow and for some of my future bows. He ended up making beautiful Koa veneers for the limbs and also used Koa for most of the riser laminations (along with phenolic and a curly maple accent). Part of the Koa board had a section of sapwood that Gregg said was virtually useless for a bow. I asked him if he could use it as a contrasting overlay for the back of the grip since the overlay is not part of the structural support. He thought it was a good idea and put the bow together that way. My Koa Classic Hunter is the bow I will be using for most of my deer hunting this year, and it is absolutely beautiful. I reorder Shrews as soon as one is built, so I usually have several on order and staggered about 6 months apart. I actually had two I ordered at the same time that were scheduled to be built this spring, but when I decided on the Koa bow, I couldn't figure out right then what I wanted for the other bow. I finally decided on a lighter weight Classic Hunter, and wanted to use the Koa in the riser and the highly figured Bubinga veneers on Kudu-tipped foam/carbon/mystery/uniweft limbs. I asked Gregg if he had any more of the sapwood from the Koa board, and he did, so I asked him to put on the Koa sapwood riser overlays like he had on my Koa CH. This moment is the first I have seen the finished bow, so all of you saw it before me. Ron tried to telephone me, but I was working and couldn't get the call. He knows me well enough that he correctly assumed I was fine with him posting pictures for everyone to see, and I am glad he did.
The Shrews just keep getting better all the time. I know I am a "Shrew Pig", but there is a certain dignity in Ron's term "Shrew Advisory Staff". Of course, Ray is not particularly into dignity, so he calls it as he sees it. :bigsmyl:

Allan,
Congrats on another beautiful Shrew :clapper: You are correct, I'm back on the list again too. :goldtooth:
Bill

Congrats Allen good choice.
-
Man, I like that bow!!!!
-
Allan, Your right the Shrew bows do keep getting better and better all the time. I have a very young family so I can't order in "Bulk" but I have been thinking about getting another order in soon. I haven't nailed down what I want and you keep making that task a little harder all the time!! :archer:
-
Beautiful bow, Ron & Gregg! That Koa on the riser really sets it off. (I love my Shrew CH but I still wish I coulda had antler overlays on my riser! :( :D )
Allan, I'd bet that the waiting time for a Shrew would be cut in half if you didn't keep ordering them! :biglaugh: Shoot it in good health!
-
Just Stunning!
-
Wow that is an amazing looking bow!!!
Fantastic woods choices!!!
Congrats
:campfire:

Allan's bow pictured above is almost an exact duplicate of the bow I made for Hawkeye for this years St Judes auction. We tried our first 58" Classic Hunter, and I missed weight a little light, so I cut this one down to 56", and it fit exactly what Allan was looking for. He was sitting at the top of the list, waiting to decide.
Initial feedback from Hawkeye, is that he really likes the 58" length.
Gregg
-
Gregg,
Another choice to make 56"or58" Maybe I will get lucky and you will bring a few 58" Classic Hunters to Kalamazoo.
Bill
-
Bill,
Our booth will have plenty of CH's and prolly some ShrewHill's too.

Great looking bow Allan. Shrews and Quests. Great collection. I do have a Shrew now and my Brack non-typical. I am mostly shooting longbows now. Just seem to shoot them better. I keep hoping we can get together and shoot sometime. Take care and congrats on the new Shrew.

Those limbs look awesome !

Donald -- Shrews, Brackenburys and Morrisons are the bows I have the most of. And I have all those in both recurves and longbows. I definitely want to get together to shoot and hunt. Say hello to Kimber from me. Thanks for your encouragement.
This is going to be a sweet, low poundage bow that looks really good. I helped Daryl pick out the materials for his St. Jude bow, so of course I like the combination. He has an issue with tingling fingers, so the longer 58" bow feels better to him due to less finger pressure. I don't have that issue and like a shorter bow, so a 56" is a better choice for me, Daryl says he likes the 58" CH better. For him there is an advantage, which is good. Things worked out well for everyone. The 58" CH is a special purpose bow. It might also be better for people with really long draw lengths, like 31"+, although BobW has a 32"+ draw and says his 56" CH does not stack at his full draw length. Still, he hasn't tried the 58" CH!

Since I have two of his former Shrew bows hanging on my rack, along with about a dozen more Shrews, it is hard to say he is wrong. Just tell it like it is, Ray!"
Allan, actually, "Shrew Pig" would be a good natured endearing term derived from the phrase "whiskey pig" coined by Ron years ago at Shrew Haven (and no it wasn't directed at me)when he found out another camp member used 3 fingers instead of two to measure out his Basil Hayden.
I beleive the Rev. Harry was deemed the first "Shrew Pig" years ago with his growing stable of Shrews; however I think you've surpassed him by quite a few now and thus are the 'king'. Anyway, it is true that I've been accused of clouding the issue with facts before, and the fact is you've got a lotta Super Shews.
:D
-
Allan...rest assured, Ray has refered to me as an "apple pie pig"....and a "pork chop pig"...etc.....more than once.
Hey Ray! I want to be on the 'Apple Pie Advisory Staff" from now on!!!
-
beautiful!
-
Roger,
I would never accuse you of being the camp apple pie pig. Since this is a public forum, I'm only going to use initials(Ron LaClair) to identify the cheif apple pie culprit.
And yes, you can be on the advisory staff along with the rest of the camp members. :biglaugh:

Wow! Hope it shoots as nice as it looks! Gotta figure it will.

Gregg e-mailed me that he was going to mention the 58" CH he built me after the St. Jude's auction on this thread in case I wanted to chime in. A lightning strike has knocked me off line for a couple days, here, but I just wanted to say what great job he had done.
I am hoping to get some pics and start a separate thread so I don't side track this one!
Allan, that is a BEAUTY of a bow coming your way. I'd never have thought of using the sapwood to accent the riser, but it really looks nice. I think our bows will be cousins, if not exactly twins!
Ron was nice enough to agree to let Gregg try a 58" CH because of the numbness I have in my string hand due to MS. I have a 56"er, but that little extra length was just what I needed to shoot more comfortably.
It's a privilege to have won the St. Jude's Shrew. I look forward to sharing the "cousin" with you!
-
I got my mail order bride today. She is much prettier in real life than in the pictures, and I thought her pics looked great. I like being able to hold the pretty little cousin of the one Daryl gets to put his arms around. His may be taller and slimmer looking, but my little gal is a petite beauty. I am in love! My wife asked me if I was going to run off to the woods with her. I told her, "Shoot, yes!" Get it? Hahahaha -- "SHOOT, yes!" :knothead: That's a joke son.

:saywhat:  :saywhat: "Shoot yes!" :saywhat:  :saywhat:
Allan, feel free to bring her by for a family reunion ANYTIME... if anything ever forces you to come to Illinois!
Cousins deserve the chance to stay in touch.

I would like to add that Craig Warran graciously donated the BowBolt that went into Daryl's St Judes bow.
Gregg

Beautiful!!!

Never has seen an UGLY SHREW yet. LOL Beatiful bow.....

Mike Stenstrom (Maineac) is building me a custom knife that he so generously donated to the St. Jude auction, where I was fortunate to be the high bidder. Gregg Coffey was kind enough to send Mike some slabs of Koa from the board that the risers on Daryl's and my Shrews are built from, and Mike is going to use the Koa slabs for the handle on the full tang Damascus steel knife. I also have another Koa Shrew that the beautiful custom knife will match. Thank you Mike and Gregg for the great donations you made to St. Jude and for building me the matched set of hunting tools. They will be used with happiness and thoughts of you (and of Ron,Craig and Daryl too, of course, since they are all three a part of this bow in varying degrees). We are blessed to have so many wonderful people as fellow TradGangers.
Hopefully Mike can photograph the knife when it is finished and post the photos here on this thread. If he isn't able to do that, I will do so whenever the knife arrives.

I'll second, third and fourth that!!!! Congratulations Allan. I always thought a knife was a knife till I met Ron LaClair. Ron has joked about the garage sale his wife Nancy would have......well I think that's what keeps Ron young, because he's afraid of what knives would be sold for. Anyway, sometimes I wonder if it's traditional bows or knives that Ron has a bigger passion for?? I do know that the knives I've bought from him are all first class and were well designed (the Shrew Skinner by Mike Repke he offered is one of my all time favorites). Great knives and great bows, they're a winning combination in my book.
