Title: CO License Question
Post by: ssoden on July 25, 2011, 07:29:00 PM
Can't seem to find the info to this question .. I buy a OTC Elk tag .. I tag out ( like a did last year) early in the hunt. Can I still carry my bow to small game hunt if I have a small game license? I would be calling Elk for my partner with a bow .. with my Elk tag filled .. just not sure.

Thanks for your help

If you're calling elk while carrying your bow, would be a tough sell to convince the warden you aren't hunting elk, IMO.  Calling with no bow in your hand, or small game hunting with bow, but not calling elk -- probably not a problem.  How lucky do you feel?

That was my question too. Quiver up with blunts and get out there.

I would think blunts or judos and you would be OK.  I'm doing it if I kill first this year.

The wildlife officers I have worked with are pretty smart and very reasonable.  While I cant speak on their behalf, from my LE perspective, if you were contacted and had a valid small game license and a quiver full of blunts or other small game specialty heads, that would be the end of the story.  If on the other hand you claimed to be hunting grouse for instance, and had a quiver full of 185gr snuffers, that might cause a little bit of suspicion.  I would imagine that the former sitaution would be a lot less inconvenient for you than the latter.
