I went bowfishing for the first time this morning and absolutely loved it! My buddy and I took turns shooting his bow. I must have taken at least a dozen shots and missed every one, haha! But I still came home and started searching online for bowfishing equipment of my own. It is very addicting!
What is the difference in the reels ? Does anyone know how well the rubber straps work that allow you to mount reels without inserts? This may allow me to use one of my current bows. Or maybe it would be best to simply try and get a whole outfit ?
Thanks for any input.

Get a gadget adapter and ams bow reel, both can be ordered from 3 rivers.

Yes, the gadget adapter is what I had seen. I was just curious how well they worked ? Do they move on the bow or when a fish is on? Mark the bow? Or are they pretty solid?

They are pretty solid with the rubber straps plus you can always tape them on for added security.

A friend has the gadget adapter and was quite pleased with it.

Bowfishing is a kick!

If you do not have any inserts to screw in a reel seat, you will definitely want to go with a AMS retriever (reel). One of the biggest hurdles to be successful with bowfishing is tuning....the straighter you can get that arrow to hit the water the better you are. Bosfishing is very addictive! Good luck!

I use the adaptor for my AMS reel. I feel this is the way to go if you do not have riser inserts.
It is easy to use the adaptor. simply position it and wrap the rubber straps around the bow and insert the stud into a pre molded hole on the rubber strap. I fold the excess rubber strap back over so I can use it on any one of my bows if necessary.

the adapter works great, i use both the great northern gadget adapter and the ams trad adapter. get the ams adapter and a ams retriever and get with it. im my opinion you will have more fun and loose less arrows with the ams, this comes from years of bowfishing and guiding bowfisherman and selling tons of bowfihsing acc.

The gadget adapter works well for me.
The warhead fish points are junk imho... ck 3r reviews as my experience is the same as others.

I home-made an adapter for the AMS reel for my takedown bow that I use for bowfishing. The adaptor mounts under the limb bolt and folds over the side of the bow. Then you just mount the reel onto the adaptor and you are ready to go.
