Anybody camo your wood shafts? I'd thought about maybe using a candle to soot up or burn the shafts in a spiral pattern but was wondering if there are any bad side effects like possibly weakening the spine too much or something.
So how about it, anyone camo their wood shafts and if so how about some pics and what did you do to get the effects.
Thanks

I've always just done spots on the with the butane burner, never had an problems with spine. These here are stained and they have a bit of a camo effect.

I've used different colored dyes to make a camo effect shaft. It turned out fairly well but I never made a full set.
When I make a set of arrows in subdued colors that match the terrain the overwhelming response is, "I'd never find those when I miss." consequently, I don't make camo arrows very often.
I have thought about using stencils and an airbrush to make a digital camo crowned arrow. That would be interesting.

I do the woodburning thing with all my arrows, and I have never noticed any difference in flight characteristics, and they look really cool. I just hold them over a propane burner and twist them to get the desired effect.

You can use a sponge with a nice stain or even different greens, brown and black and dab it on! Cool effect! Shawn

Is this what you were thinking?

DesertDude, that's exactly what I was thinking. How'd you do it and did it make any difference with how they shot?

Thats what i meant about the burner with the above picture.

Warning! Don't put flame to gasket lacquer! It burns like gunpowder.

Here's a thought! Natural bamboo or cane - no stain, no sealer and no added camo.

Here's some I made a lil while ago.

Dave,
That's pretty cool looking. How do you go about getting that effect? Inquiring minds want to know.

I use a oil lamp It puts a smokey soot on the shaft. Put the flame up high and smoke it. Does not burn the shaft. You can't rub it until you clear it. Spray on Deft spray. Get the satin finish. Drys very fast.

That don't mean diddly to me, might as well be speaking Chinese..guess I'll Google those two terms and see what I find.
