Title: "Elvis" is alive and well in Michigan
Post by: Bobby Urban on October 01, 2011, 04:19:00 PM
and hiding in trees!  A bit windy here this morning but all in all a great opener.  Saw a few deer early and was sitting back enjoying a cup of coffee when I notice some more aproaching.  I stood up and got a better look as they crept in and saw that is was a doe with two fawns.  I had no intention of shooting so I stuck the bottom limb of my recurve into the cargo pocket on my pants and leaned back against the tree as they came under me.  About the time I could see all three through the expanded metal of my stand ole "Elvis" leg kicked in BAD!  Sometimes it happens to me and sometimes it does not.  I find it makes no difference the size or sex of the deer - it just overtakes me at times.  I would straighten and lock out my Elvis leg and the other would get started.  If I locked out both knees my whole body would start shaking like the leaves in the wind around me.  All I could do was hold on and wait for them to quit investigating my pee spot and move on.  Momma was sure something was up but never spooked.  She just circled the tree 3 times with her kids in tow and walked off the direction they came from.

Wow - I was so shaken after they left I could not get control of myself for 25 minutes.  Just had to sit there and ride it out.  As soon as I thought the endorphin rush was over it would regain momentum and I would start shivering uncontrolably again.

Awesome!  although I hate when it is happening I have been doing this long enough to know it wont always happen and to enjoy the rush.  Best drug in the world and I hope if I am doing this another 20+ years I get the feeling at least once or twice a season forever.

About to head back out into the windy woods and see if I can control my adrenalin tonight.

Good luck to all of you and keep an eye out for Elvis leg living in your trees!

I get jacked too but with me it's un controlable shivering, good thing it only happens when I have no intentions of shooting. When I make up mind to shoot I get so focused on making a clean shot my mind blocks everything else, now after the shot I'm a basket case.

When I don't get that feeling anymore I'll probably quit. Hope that never happens!

I get it bad, but it is after an encounter. I am always suprised that I was smart enough to put my stand or blind in the right place. So when I see them it is a suprise. Then once they are gone I almost shake myself out of the tree. I have not problem waiting after a shot. If I tried to climb down just after I  would fall for sure. I can't wait should be get some hunting end by the end of the week if all goes well.  :)

I should admit that I've had it so bad that I once had to hang up my bow so I could hold onto the tree.

I thought my heart was going to explode.

I seriously asked myself at that moment.."Are you having fun yet?"...lol

I dang near triggered one of my old nemesis'...a full fledged panic attack.

There I feel better now...lol

God bless,Mudd

It's weird how that happens,I've had does come in and although I don't even grab my bow I start to get the shakes. Then I have been completely calm over some of my biggest bucks. Who knows?      :dunno:
